Yep, I agree. I sold two things at the yard sale I bought the phone at (my neighbor.) I had already tried taking my two bowling balls to Second Chance (like Goodwill but proceeds go to battered women's shelter) but they didn't want them so I had planned to take them to Goodwill (don't know if they would have taken them either.) Anyhow, sold 'em for $3.75 each. She wanted them for her garden.

I cannot stand to keep clutter around. I live in a mobile home and there isn't a lot of room for that sort of thing. So I give to Goodwill or Second Chance and don't have the hassle of a yard sale, trying to get rid of whatever I've accumulated.

Other than folks outright stealing at a yard sale, which is appalling, I find the most ridiculous story was about the woman haggling over a nickel item. Anything on sale for a nickel, to me, is just like giving it away.

My town has a " Worlds Largest Garage Sale" weekend. It was in July but now they have moved it towards the end of August. People come from all over. I talked to one couple from Michigan ( we are in Oklahoma) that come every year. They bring a trailer with them cuz they never know what they will find. A LOT of people will have a yard sale or garage sale. It gets so bad,you can barely drive down the roads. DH and I used to go all the time, but now.. not so much. I try to keep money with me on that weekend, so if I see something interesting, or a friend calls and says they have brand name clothes prob in my kids's sizes, I can go. Its usually just too damn hot to go as much as I would like

Wow, I have been wrestling with the decision to have a sale or not this summer. I have a lot of things, but I just don't like the hassle. I used to LOVE having sales. Then a couple bad ones in a row, and I have not had one for four years.

Less then one hour into our 3 day sale this last weekend.. A very rude lady that was trying to talk me down on the price of some of my jewelry leaned on our umbrella table, knocked it and me over and spilled my entire can of coke all over me. This was thursday, when it was almost 100 degrees here with ridiculous humidity because it is Michigan.
I was so p*ssed off.
Never again - here anyway!

I don't understand why anyone would let someone get away with stealing their stuff. Regardless if it's a yard sale or a store, it is still theft. Steal from me and I'll be calling the cops.

Maybe I'm not reading your post right, but I didn't let anyone "get away" with stealing my stuff. Like I had mentioned in my post above, they usually come in a big van with a load of people in it. A couple of them keep you occupied by asking how much is this and how much is that, while their family/friends quickly steal stuff. Once they all pile back into the van and take off, it is then that you realize things are missing. I would NEVER intentionally let anyone get away with stealing my stuff.

This is why I always have a few people with me now in every yard sale so that I can have more eyes watching these people.

I guess you have never seen some women who go to garage sales. They can be as big as a man. No way would I take them on.
