I had a yard sale once and didn't know that people haggled until then! I had had it people wanting something for nothing on things that were brand new or nearly new. (they would have payed more if they had gone to the second hand stores. I'd finally had it with one man that had a bunch of stuff in his hand and wanted to give me a couple of dollars for the whole lot! I snatched everything out of his hand and told him to leave and not come back! haha I couldn't believe I did it. and do you know after all that....he had the NERVE to then say he would buy it at the prices shown on each item. told him too late...should have done that to begin with and you would have owned the items. I said never again with the yard sales.

first, I cannot believe people would steal from a yard sale!!
I do admit I am a haggler, but not rude about it. I will offer half of what someone is asking...if they say no then so be it. If they really want to get rid of it, maybe I am in luck.
When I have a sale I price fully expecting hagglers. except clothes...they are always 25 cents each or fill a bag for a buck, doesn't matter what brand this last time I had abercrombie, american eagle, ll bean, prada, old navy....just wanted the stuff gone.

I haggle but not like the op stated. If it is something I want and it is new I would have bought them for the $8. I could never, ever steal from a garage sale. The nerve of some people.

Today was a little bit better. Not as many rude people and I only had 1 thing stolen. LOL And the hagglers were alot nicer and reasonable too. I had one older gentlemen come up and insist I take MORE for an items that I had marked. He was funny! Tomorrow is the last day. We are all saying that we will mark everything 75% off or best offer! Okay not really but thats how we feel. I will not be doing this again though. From now on I will just donate and let someone else deal with it.

Check out churches, youth groups, 4H etc. Alot of them around here have yard sales to help pay for trips, equip. and things. They might take the extras off your hands. They would probably pick it up too!

A friend is very active in her church. I have given them many items because they take the money from their sale and use it for their food pantry. I know she has run into some real winners (cough cough). People have their kids come and steal from the tables and then run and put it in their car. Others will bring their own bags and pile everything in those bags and when confronted they have been know to say "but I am doing you a favor. I am taking things that you would have to throw away". When told they have to put the items back or pay for them, they huff and puff and stick their noses up in the air! One person who no longer will show her face, turned out to try and get things free stating that she really needed the items and then would turn around and sell the items at her own garage sale. This church always has their doors open and want to help people who need it without any questions asked. Of course some people have been known to drive to the food pantry in their brand new BMWs, Audis and Jags and walk out with plenty of food. There are all types of people in this world.

OMG, I feel your pain. I had my first and last yard sale over 10 years ago. Never again. I had the rudest people ever. It was supposed to be from 8-12 and people were literally in my yard at 4:30 am. I wasn't even set up yet. Then I had things priced super low, I mean 25 cents. I even had a table where everything was a nickel and people wanted to haggle me down to 3 cents. I don't want to flippin' make change for that. I knew people would haggle but for a nickel? I had a the strangest people and all the weird neighbors came out and wanted to stay. I was like ok go home now please. I made some decent money cuz DH had a bunch of tools and stuff that sold but from now on I donate everything to charity.

I don't think I've ever haggled at a garage sale, but I think I've only been to three or four in my whole life. If I want it, I'll pay the price if I think it's reasonable. I left one sale without buying cuz I felt bad because my lowest bill was a 20 and the item was 5, usually I won't leave one without buying at least one thing cuz I feel weird leaving without buying. If I have my kids with me, then we almost always buy stuff I wouldn't normally buy on my own.
Hopefully it's almost over for you, sorry that people are like that.

Did ya'll miss the part about her being in Chicago? :P That's why they're rude and crazy... Just Kidding!!! John's from the Roger's Park area originally... and I lived in Oak Park for a time... I know rude, obnoxious Chicago-ians and he's sitting here in my office.
(Now if ANYONE is taking me seriously... please note I'm being sarcastic. Anyone who knows me, knows I absolutely ADORE that man... )
