New medication...un-believeable
I have been dealing with bronchitis/pnemonia for over 3 weeks. Not getting any better but nothing really shows up on my chest x-ray.
Called my doctor yesterday since I finished my antibiotic & cough syrup. All I was asking for was a re-fill. Instead of doing that they made me come in which was understandable.
I ended up getting a shot & a new antibiotic (at least I THINK that is what it is) which is called Methylprednisolone. I have no clue how I am supposed to take this medication. There aren't any instructions on the package.
It is apackage that starts off with 6 pills for the first day & tapers off by 1 pill until you reach just the 1 pill. Ok I suppose I am supposed to take each line a day BUt am I supposed to take all 6 pills at the same time or can I space them out throughout the day??? A side effect is drowsiness & I do have to work all day.
Other side effects are skin growths, personality changes & throwing up to look like coffee grounds. I told my son that it I suddenly turn psycho, grow a second head & barf coffe that he may think about calling a doctor for me.
Crazy meds!
BTW...if this doesn't work the next option is to be hospitalized for IV antibiotics.

lord,Id be calling the Walgreens and asking them to give me the instructions over the phone,if your not to take 6 at once, and you do,that could be very scarey indeed, who knows what it could do to you. For them to come with no instructions is odd,was it a sample pac from your doctor? Hope you start feeling huge amount better hon

This medication is used to treat various conditions such as allergic disorders; arthritis; blood diseases; breathing problems; certain cancers; eye diseases; intestinal disorders; collagen and skin diseases. It decreases your body's immune response to these diseases and reduces symptoms such as swelling and redness. Methylprednisolone is a corticosteroid hormone (glucocorticoid).
This drug may also be used with other medications as a replacement for certain hormones.
How to use Methylprednisone Oral
Take this medication by mouth with food or milk, or as directed by your doctor. Dosage and duration of treatment are based on your medical condition and response to therapy.
If you are taking only one dose of this medication per day, it is best to take it in the morning before 9 a.m. If you are taking this medication every other day or on another schedule besides a daily one, it may help to mark your calendar with a reminder.
If you are using the methylprednisolone tapered dose pack, follow the dosing schedule and take it exactly as prescribed. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medication unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. Grapefruit juice may increase the amount of this medication in your body. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.
(ask pharmacist how to take this -- if he doesn't know, he can call your doctor's office for you.)
It is used to treat a LONG LAUNDRY list of problems --

I've been on something similiar, I think. I have been on the Z-Pack which is a 5 day dose of antibiotic that you take three onthe first day, two on the second day and then 1 every ramainding day.
I have also been on the 7 day steriod packs (I had whooping cough) where you take 6 one day, 5 the next and so on (decreasing 1 pill each day). For the steriod pack, which is what I think you have because of the name, I was told I could either take 3 in the morning and 3 at night OR just take all 6 at the same time. I believe I did 3 and 3 just because taking 6 pills all at once kind of freaked me out a bit.
Hope you get some answers and I hope you start to feel better. Being sick is for the birds lol
**Oh, and if you throw up and it looks like coffee grounds, that means you have internal bleeding and you need to call 911 immediatly**

If you look real closely to the packaging (the plastic part that actually holds the pills) it should say how to take them. Normally there are several for the first day, then it slightly decreases each day. Its really odd that they didn't put a script label on the box. I would call them. I hope you feel better.

It is definitly a steroid not an antibiotic, I used to have to take it too when I smoked and would get "bronchitus" a lot. Its nasty stuff thats why they wean you off of it slowly.

It is a steroid and it will also make you crazy. I took it a few years ago and I swore I would never take that stuff again.
