I don't know what it did. I just know I turned the air cond off one night because it had gotten too cool and when I turned it back on the next morning it wouldn't go on.

We just had to pay $475 for a new fan motor and for them to clean the coils on the outside unit of our central air conditioner and they put some freon in it. We got up yesterday and one of the blades had fallen off the outside unit. He was telling us he'd replace just the outside unit for $1500. Isn't that high for that? I thought it was.

Your windows don't open? I'd be paranoid of being trapped in a fire! Why don't they open? Just curious. Good luck w/ the AC orderal tho.

Not really. The US Govt changed the minimum energy efficiency ratings that have to be used now. Therefore the units cost more since they are higher efficiency. However, ask for a credit for that $ 475.00 service call. And get a second opinion from another A/C contractor. We have done tons of calls where another company said the unit was "condemned and had to be replaced" when it was just something very basic and took less than 5 minutes to fix.

We actually had that happen with our furnace. They said it had to be replaced immediately, not to even light it again. We called another company out and had it repaired. There are so many dishonest people , especially when they know they have you over a barrel.
I would say maybe half do/don't open. They have been painted several times without us cutting the paint with a knife.
