I never realized how much I really needed sleep until I stopped getting actually getting the 7-8 hours I am used to get. After 3 weeks of working 60 hour weeks ((1 part time job, 1 full time job)) I find myself SUPER irritable, cranky, and tired. In between work hours, classes, and stress, I am getting about 3 hours a night, even tho I allow a time slot of about 7. I have tried everything: white noise machine, benedryl, a fan to make the room cool, ear plugs, eye covers, new sheets, lavender sachets, near my bed, music ((flutes, native american, whale sounds etc)) and it isnt working. I toss and I turn and toss and turn. A friend suggested that if I am not asleep in an hour, to get up and do something relaxing, instead of just laying in bed and stressing about not sleeping, which is preventing me from sleep. I have worked in exercise way before bedtime to try to make myself extra tired, and I am just at the END of my rope, its like I am ready to rip someones head off. Today I walked my dog, got the mail, fed him and walked him again and unplugged all the phones, I laid down for a nap, and just as SOON as I fell asleep a Jehovahs Witness came by knocking on my door, making my dog go ape sheet, of course waking me up. The guy continues to POUND on the door, so I get up and answer it, and he starts talking right away, and I'm like, do you NOT see the no trespassing sign?!?! So I ran down and got ANOTHER sign, no soliciting and a bigger no trespassing sign. I called my friend to complain and she is like, OH WELL, and I had to excuse myself before I said something mean. Its now 6:30 CST and I am so tired my eyes are crossed, but I am WIDE awake, I havent drinked any caffiene all day, or eaten extreme food, so there is no reason I should be awake. Anyone with sleep problems ever tried melatonin or valerin root? I heard of a product that has both, I think it is Sleep MD from Walmart, wonder if it would work? Anyone here tried M or V or sleep MD?

Have you tried going to sleep with the tv on. When I can't sleep I watch something i like and it seems to relax and settle me down.

Wow that totally sucks. Maybe Tylenol PM? There is a sleep medicine, like simply sleep or something like that, or the offbrand. I would suggest something, otherwise you might get sick.

Or lay in bed and read a book? That always makes me fall asleep. If it doesn't get better soon maybe you should try sleeping pills.

My sister uses valerian. My husband uses melatonin. Each one likes the product they are using.
Reading usually works for me (unless it's a book I really want to read). I can't fall asleep easily with TV -- I get too engaged. Hope you find something that works!

Thanks for all the suggestions, I have not tried keeping the TV on and trying to sleep that way, but I have tried the book and it seems like I get even MORE awake when I read, even if it is a boring book LOL. Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, I appreciate it. I have not tried Tylenol PM, the only sleep aide I have tried is benedryl.
Renrunt, I hope that you dont mind, but I PMd you asking about melatonin, what dosage etc |

When you find out what works, let me know, lol. My biggest problem is i will wake up, and cant go back to sleep because I cant get my mind to shut off.
What works for me(sometimes) is to rub the DH's back. I go right to sleep. When he has to work nights, I really have trouble sleeping, so I rub the pillow. I guess it is just the action that soothes me enough to fall asleep, kinda like a worry stone or something. |

Try reading laying down in bed instead of sitting up.Also this will sound weird but try praying while you are laying down in bed.Its always worked for my mom and me.
