I us valerian root extract in raspberry iced tea to sleep when I can't get to sleep. I drink it real fast so it starts working soon.. It does help me

I have the opposite effect w/benadryl and nyquil and stuff like that.. Tylenol pm and advil pm have benedryl in it.. If benedryl isn't working for you then those won't either

My DH used to take melatonin but it worked for him 2 nights and quit.

The only thing that works for me is Advil PM. Tylenol Pm didn't really do the trick and Sominex (OTC) was very addictive so I will occasionally pop 2 Advil PM and a half hour later i am falling over in a stupor I am so tired.
Hope you get some rest, sounds like you indeed need it *hugs*

I've tried melatonin and it didn't do anything for me.. actually the first time I took it, it kept me up for 30 hours I tried it again and nada... nothing OTC works for me though nor does much else. I truly feel your pain.

Melatonin makes me have weird dreams so I stopped taking it, I use a generic tylenol pm sometimes it works right away and at times it takes for ever to work

After 3 weeks of working 60 hour weeks ((1 part time job, 1 full time job)) I find myself SUPER irritable, cranky, and tired. In between work hours, classes, and stress, I am getting about 3 hours a night, even tho I allow a time slot of about 7. I have tried everything: white noise machine, benedryl, a fan to make the room cool, ear plugs, eye covers, new sheets, lavender sachets, near my bed, music ((flutes, native american, whale sounds etc)) and it isnt working. I toss and I turn and toss and turn. A friend suggested that if I am not asleep in an hour, to get up and do something relaxing, instead of just laying in bed and stressing about not sleeping, which is preventing me from sleep. I have worked in exercise way before bedtime to try to make myself extra tired, and I am just at the END of my rope, its like I am ready to rip someones head off. Today I walked my dog, got the mail, fed him and walked him again and unplugged all the phones, I laid down for a nap, and just as SOON as I fell asleep a Jehovahs Witness came by knocking on my door, making my dog go ape sheet, of course waking me up. The guy continues to POUND on the door, so I get up and answer it, and he starts talking right away, and I'm like, do you NOT see the no trespassing sign?!?! So I ran down and got ANOTHER sign, no soliciting and a bigger no trespassing sign. I called my friend to complain and she is like, OH WELL, and I had to excuse myself before I said something mean. Its now 6:30 CST and I am so tired my eyes are crossed, but I am WIDE awake, I havent drinked any caffiene all day, or eaten extreme food, so there is no reason I should be awake. Anyone with sleep problems ever tried melatonin or valerin root? I heard of a product that has both, I think it is Sleep MD from Walmart, wonder if it would work? Anyone here tried M or V or sleep MD?
Melatonin works.

Melatonin kept me up, too when I tried it.

Have you tried Benadryl? That KNOCKS me out.

Also (like others have mentioned), Tylenol PM, but I would be careful... I've known so many people who have gotten addicted to it.

I am one nasty, nasty lady when I haven't had enough sleep, dangerous even, so, I can relate !

I can't STAND the feeling of being sleepy, and, not being able to sleep... I dread it.

The only thing I have found that can help knock me out when I really, really need it, is the muscle relaxer Flexeril, but, it also gives me a hangover...lol, so, I can only take it if I have the time to get plenty of sleep over the next 12 to 16 hours !

Melatonin works for some, not so well for others. It does my DH pretty good, and, it totally knocks my friend Diana flat out ! Everyone's system is different, you have to find what works for you.

I will pop a Flexeril, get all comfy in the bed... and start reading something, and within 30 minutes, I'm out !

Oh, DH also uses Ambien, it works for him, but, it's just not practical to use daily.

Ohh I have a 90 count of Flexeril hmmmm...I know it makes me loopy but I never tried to go to sleep after taking it.
I used to be on a script I believe was called Remeron. OMG I took 1 pill and slept for 3 days. My mother got so worried she rushed me to the ER because I couldn't wake up. I mean, I could get up and walk but was all fuzzy and as soon as I sat down I would be asleep again. The dr's in the ER told me to take 2 pills instead and it would counteract what 1 pill did. My mom called them a bunch of names and flushed the pills. DAMN HER! I could have made some good money with my lamo dirtbag HS friends LMAO.

The dr just gave me Flexerill for the fibro because nights are really rough for sleeping and it really seemed to help.
