Last Sunday about 5:30 AM, our 4 year old Border Collie suffered a massive seizure, or since the Vet didn't know what it is called as he did not view it has been called "an episode".
It lasted about 4-5 mintes, but no matter how long it took for a recovery it was really bad. I woke up and we set coffee and I went back to bed, and although I don't wear my glasses always, something was happening, something bad. I saw it in the corner of my eye..and always Jessie goes with JT. She stayed with me. I screamed for JT, who was 3 floors down...he made it up for the last of 2 minutes... Some history: Jessie is 4 years old and we got her for our dog Skip, who is 12 years old. Skip's canine brother studded Jessie. Jessie is mostly Border Collie, very spazzy, a great runner and highly excitable. JT, the BF and actual owner, did not want to take Jess to the VET, so I made arrangements and got her within an hour at the Unviersity of Minnesota Vet Clinic, where they did conclude Jess had suffered an 'episode", much like a seizure. JT decided to take Jessie home where she was very listless, and whacked out, and was not Jessie at all. On Tuesday, I went over and Jessie was dragging her paws and pacing. Jessie went back to the U OF M, for testing. I forced JT to take her back. It has been found out, she has a "shadow on the frontal lobe of her brain", that result from an X-ray and an MRI..not good, this suggests she has a tumor. She had a spinal tap, that was not good either, could be suggestive of incepholitious (sp), and that is better than the above, kind of. In this case however we are waiting for the results of more tests, but JT doesn't seem to grasp, Jessie will not return as the REAL Jessie. Whatever prompted this "episode" is very real. She is NOT a dog with just seizures, it is presenting an underlying reason. Yesterday, JT was forcing Jess to run and play like Jessie and where I agree excercise is great for her, in moderation, he is in complete denial and states JESSIE IS FINE..umm, no she is not. He keeps giving her dog treats..I say keep her on her regular diet and a treat as we did before, 1-2 a day. I have been consumed with grief and have not slept as Jessie has taken to pacing at night and sometimes crying with this and we have hard wood floors so you can hear her toes scrapping the floors. She also used to sleep odd, on her back, one leg in the air and her thighs open, though I insisted to Jessie she cover her "WHOO_WHOO" with her tail. She did follow through learning that, she is an ODD BALL, but I love her. After a walk yesterday and here is the VENT.. He claims, I don't care for the dog, but I was tired and needed to go to my house and clean it up, I have been gone from home for a week, we don't live together...so when I presented that he BLEW UP..hey I just got a new job we have not even talked about, and it was a really nice day for the dogs to be in the yard, but he SCREAMED, YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING for MY dog! Really? I got to find Jessie in a full blown seizure, and decided where to take her to get a Dr., to see her ( he was not going to take her into a Vet at 5:45 AM on a Sunday as he felt the cost was going to be outrageous), it was..and have taken every Vet phone call..good/bad news, which I report to him as he can't shut his mouth as the Dr., speaks..and this is not a "touchy/ feely DR., but he is the best at the U OF Minnesota, and would rather speak with me. I have asked for a 3 way call Monday. My family has been there as well, my own Mama donated $250.00 for the cause of the bills. I have been there EVERY day, and support our 12 year old Collie and gave $500.00 of my own monies to cover a $3,500, he took a loan on his house.. And I had to go home, I slept 14 hours which is not like me, but working and dealing with Jessie makes me tired. And knowing JT and his moods, I will have to call him and for what? He told IF he gets MAD at me, to tell him, I did, but he says.."you don't believe she is better", I do believe she is, but the meds Jess is taking is to reduce the swelling in her brain, a anti-seizure med and some antibotics, this controls what is happening for now. This in no way suggests these meds will solve why the seizure was caused, and if it is a brain tumor..it will be bad news. And so I am the "BAD GUY", for needing a little time at my house, get things in order and call up for some cash, from my banking system to be helpful towards the bill. I was NOT in JT'S life when Jessie was a new puppy for Skip the older dog. Now, Skip is upset and JT and Jessie just paces or sleeps and he is forcing Jessie to RUN like she did. * Border Collies, like Jessie have to get rid of thier energy, and man could she run and chase rabbits like crazy and I mean she could climb hills that even if I were young, I would not try, and Jessie did this with out any effort. Border Collies are normal for doing this. Now we have a different Jessie. And if Jess did not get run as she liked it, she is known to take shoes or remotes or even under pants, anything she could find and put it in the yard, sort of a message that says.."PAY ATTENTION to ME, I need a RUN". And JT has been the greatest for dogs, he has had them everwhere we go. We cancelled our DOG vacation this week for Duluth, Minnesota, where we go to Lake SUPERIOR, just for the dogs to go NUTS for 5-6 hours..no out to dinners, this is about running the dogs...letting them have a great day, but we could not this time. And I needed to go to my place, wash my duds and have a break..and some how this makes me an UNCARING person. If it were not for me finding and FORCING JT to take to the VET, I have no clue what would have happened. Now with shaved paws for IV'S and a back part of her neck for the Spinal TAP, we have to deal with it. I have done my part. I think. I think I am really whining more than the vent, I have tried, I have, I really did. And will continue.

I am sure he (JT) is lashing out at you because he is scared of loosing his Jessie. So he will be short and blame you for the problems - just let him for a while - you know you are not a bad person. JT just doesn't know how to handle this and the only way is to make you the bad guy. Sending you & Jessie & JT some prayers and good hugs. You are NOT a bad uncaring person, if you don't believe me reread your own post.

I have and he is refusing to pick up the phone and as a matter of fact, took it off the hook.
I feel awful, and I have not made a lot of progress cleaning the house either. I am actually going to order a pizza for dinner and I never do that. I can't fix Jessie, I wish I could. Thanks, though.

JT has refused to talk to me..I either hate him or myself..I did clean and slept..and will sleep more..I hate this!
I did not get great things done..I had planned to get a pizza, but I have not done that either.. Pray for us. The vet doctor is calling at 9:00 AM after reviewing Jessie's results..3 way call..as if I matter...I MADE AN EMERGENCY CALL , my Daddy was a Dr., so I felt I could BEG for it..and he was cool about my anxiety..fingers and toes and paws crossed..please pray for US..

I just spoke with the Vet Dr., Jessie has improved a little but she doesn't have incepholitis (bad spell), so that leaves us with a brain tumor or a very comprised Auto Immune System..JT is really scared, and if this continues we may have to think if the worst option, which is "putting her down"..we are not they yet, but the bills mount and we have no CLEAR idea, yet, what they can do.
A form of Chemo has been suggested, this is not only a drug for cancer, but can work in other ways..I can only pray something works or clearly doesn't. She is a happier dog, she drags her paws still and falls when turning around. I think we are taking her back in a few days, but I always get the phone calls, so I have asked the Dr., to contact JT direct, so he can ease his mind and stop blaming me..the cause that was found out to has nothing to do with say eating something bad, or getting into say ant traps we have or fertilzer. All of the toxicology proves in her gene make up. It is just in her DNA. I continue to ask for prayers.

JT seriously needs to get a grip. It's not your fault the dog is ill.
Nothing is worse than your baby being sick and not knowing how to deal with it

Aww so sorry about your poochie. My sis had a collie that a year ago had seizures they did recommend the U of Minn. clinic but that wasn't an option for her financially so they medicated her dog the best they could. I hope all turns out well.

There are many things I would like to say but I won't. I just hope the dog gets better. I must at least add that I think JT is an ass. He doesn't seem to handle life issues real well. Hugs to you.
