Yes it happened to me. I think I got burned for $133.00 from someone on Ebay and its partly my own stupidity.
I sold a phone for 122.00 plus shipping. I should have seen the red flags when she took a week to pay me I guess but I believed her death in the family story.
Anyway I recieve the paypal and I see that the transaction is not eligible for paypal protection and that should have been my huge red flag but I trust to much and I figure hey I have tracking so I am safe. WRONG.

Paypal reversed the transaction today because they say she never had money to cover it and they took it back from me! They also chastized me on her low feedback etc. I promptly told them that without having those restrictions on my bidders had I NOT sent the phone I would have gotten a negative for sure!
I already mailed the phone priority mail 2 days ago so immediately I tracked it and it was in Beverly Hills 90210 PO (no kidding). I called everywhere trying to get them to stop from delivering that package but I don't know if it worked yet. I couldn't get anyone to answer the damn phone at the PO itself but I faxed them a form 1590 Senders Application for a recall and redirect of mail after spending an hour on the phone and then half an hour at my PO today.
It still shows on the tracking it is at the PO so if they GOT my fax and will honor it MAYBE they will send it back to me but I doubt it and so does my local PO.
I have emailed her, filed a non paying bidder, argued with paypal and everything I can think of but I am just sick and feel so stupid.

I had no idea this could happen.

The guy at Paypal was very nice but he said people like her do this all the time.

Oh man! I'm sorry this happend Tami. I don't understand why people bid if they know damn well they are not going to pay.

I would just be sick, then really ticked. You shouldn't feel bad, the scammer should. I'm sure they sleep just fine though. I hope that you get your package back instead of it going to the scammer. If not, maybe it will get damaged beyond repair or something before they get it.

I'm sorry that happened to you. Almost makes you wish a postal worker would take it so she doesn't get it. But what I hope is they send it back to you not her.

how can she pay with paypal but "never had the money to begin with?" wth?????????? so, someone with a balance of 2.59 can bid and pay for something for 159.00 and they will honor it for a couple of days (while you are shipping) then magically say the funds are not there. i would be highly freakin pissed off. isn't that their fault????????

oh boy, if and when this happens to me....i am DONE with paypal and ebay. there are changing it to you can only pay with paypal and have already changed the feedback system. they are catering to scammers.

I'm so sorry for you!
Last year just before Christmas,I got the opposite shaft..
I paid immediately and never got the merchandise.When I finally
got a reply from the seller,she told me a sob story,said she
would send it right out. Guess what? No gameboy! I had to come up with
more money to buy my son a new one before Christmas! Meanwhile,she closed
her acct.,and neither paypal or ebay "could" do anything about it.
I hate to see an honest seller like yourself get shafted! I hope you get
your phone back.It wasn't YOUR stupidity.. It was HER dishonesty!

You would think with paypal and ebay making so much money they would find a way for everyone not to get crapped on. Shame on them.

now I don't know all the rules or laws and whatnot, but couldn't you contact the police in her area and let them know what happened? That she "paid" but didn't have the money to cover it and the payment was cancelled but she has the product? Theft is theft isn't it?

most likely her paypal account is linked to her checking... so when you pay.. it pulls from your checking account.. and the seller gets their money right away.... then in a few days.. when there is no money in the bank account.. the paypal charges "bounces" and paypal pulls their money back from the seller

You shouldn't feel bad, the scammer should. I'm sure they sleep just fine though. I hope that you get your package back instead of it going to the scammer. If not, maybe it will get damaged beyond repair or something before they get it.
