Unhappy Anyone here ever have to put their best friend to sleep?

How did you find the strength to do it? My 15 yo schnauzer, Harley Wendall has been steadily going down hill the last few days. She won't even get out of her bed. No quality of life at all. Doesn't seem to be in any pain, TG. I want what is best for her, always have.I know in my head what needs to be done, but my heart is shattered. I love her so much, can't imagine life without her.

OH sweetie I feel for you and my heart goes out to you. I have lost many of my friends over the years but only one I ever had to put down and it was one of the most painful things I ever did.

I had to do that to one of my dogs. I cried for a week before doing it. It's just like losing one of your kids.
Good luck

I havent but my parents had to do that 2 weeks ago. They had a 12 year old pom and she was in so much pain. They had hoped she would get better with the meds but didnt, so they had her put to sleep. They were devestated. I hate it when they cry, and they are still having a hard time but its getting better day by day.

I not only had to but our beagle to sleep 2 yrs ago, but I was there when they pulled the plug on my dad. But knowing that they will be without pain, makes things better. Its worse to watch someone suffer, then to just say good-bye.

I had to put one of our ferrets to sleep when he got a cancerous tumor that got too big before it was noticed.. It was one of the hardest things I have done. I was told he didn't feel any pain. I hope that is true

We had to put our Bonnie down. We, like you knew her quality of life was nonexisitant. It was very hard. It is still hard and its been like 2-3 years. but we did the right thing, but it doesn't make it easier knowing that. They will let you be in there with them or not. We chose to stay with her and my oh my it was crushing but I am so thankful we were there with her. She knew we loved her as I am sure your Harley knows. That is comforting. I am so sorry for you. HUGS!!!

We had to put down the only cat I've ever had. Gretchen was a sealpoint siamese, raised her from about 5 weeks old. And she was a HOUSECAT. After a few years somehow she got out and ventured into the neighbors shed where she kept chemicals and poisons for her gardens. We didn't notice until Gretchen started bleeding thru her mouth and butt. Had to put her down and I still saw her everywhere in the house and in my bed for a few years after she died. Never owned another cat and still think about Gretchen often.

we've had so many animals that I would consider my best friends that we had to put to sleep. it was a very hard and painful decision but I couldn't imagine letting them suffer (which thankfully your baby is not) You just have to know what is best for them and if she has no quality of life that's not fair to her or you. I remember all the good times and it is hard. I was out here and wasn't able to bring my cat, had plans to have her fly w/ my mom but before then she got a brain tumor and my mom had to put her to sleep, that was three years ago this spring? And I still miss her so much. She was the best cat in the whole world for me and I honestly don't want another cat unless it's her. On a side note, when Luke put his schnauzer to sleep he had him cremated and the place that did it was so great, they cut off a lock of his fur and took his paw prints and gave them to Luke. Luke and I also picked out a very nice urn that we can put a pic of him in and he sits over the great room watching over us. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, I hate losing my babies. {{{{hugs********
