Re: Why when I call in sick to work Iam made to feel bad for calling in?
I've seen you post so many times about your job. IMO, you put in way more than you get.
It sounds like they don't appreciate you at all. My sister is going through the same thing. She does WAY more work than the guys she works with, but they all get the same pay and get treated the same way.
Do you have any other options for a job? You sound like a hard worker and you should be treated like one.
Regardless, I hope you feel better.

Re: Why when I call in sick to work Iam made to feel bad for calling in?
I really do like my job & working with the customers. About 18 months ago we got a new store manager & deli manager. They transfered out of the blue a really great deli manager that we had. Since I have been working at this store (3 1/2 yrs) we have had 3 deli managers.
The one we have now is very bad at his job. Cant keep stuff in stock or order supplies when needed. He tends to forget when we tell him what items or supplies we need ordered.
This guy was a deli manager before & demoted for not being able to do the job well.
Anyway he goes on Vacation next week & our old deli manager is filling in for him.
Maybe they will see what a better job he does & have him stay.

Re: Why when I call in sick to work Iam made to feel bad for calling in?
When I worked retail, I hated having to call off because they made me feel guilty for being sick and not wanting to make customers sick. I called in the one morning and got my store manager on the phone, told him I was sick, I'd been throwing up for about 3 hours at that point. He had the nerve to ask me if I'd be able to come in later. I said sure if you either have a bucket for me to throw up in, a chair for me to sit in because I really can't stand up and if you can't provide a bucket then I need to have someone in my department the whole time with me so when I need to throw up, I can run all the way across the store, up one floor and to the bathroom.

Re: Why when I call in sick to work Iam made to feel bad for calling in?
The first thing about calling in sick is you have to forgive yourself. If we came from a family with a good work ethic, we feel guilty about calling in.
I can give several reasons the boss isn't nice. They don't have to be nice.
They have had lots of "sicks" that weren't sick. Their bigger concern is who is going to work this position today. I have had good and bad bosses. The good one told us to stay home if we just felt *****y because she didn't want anyone there who couldn't be nice. I am a nurse. I had another boss who would call us at home for the least little thing. I had surgery and she wanted me to come back to work early, before the doctor had even released me to go back to work. She said all I would have to do would be just to sit there behind the desk and do nothing , just to be there. I knew that wouldn't happen. That would never happen!! My surgery was on my ileostomy and I was still not able to keep a pouch on it. I told her that, I said I can not keep a pouch on my ileostomy yet. At that time nurses still wore white. She told me I could put a towel in my lap. She was the boss from hell and I think everyone has had at least one of those.

Re: Why when I call in sick to work Iam made to feel bad for calling in?
I am so lucky called into with a toothache(swollen so bad ,when i went to store to get some tylenol ,a cop asked if some guy had hit me lol. I had calls from 3 managers not to make sure i was really home but to find out if i needed anything on their way home. And one of my coworkers called to say he taped a tv show i like for me. My job is so flexable i can make up the hours or even take advanced paid time off. And now wohooo starting next week I get to work from home

Re: Why when I call in sick to work Iam made to feel bad for calling in?
I'm sick right now as well, hope you get to feeling better soon. I know what you mean, my last job they didn't like it when you were sick, when I first started I remember one employee got REALLY sick and I mean really sick, like got half the office sick and I remember the head mngr begging her not to go home early or stay home bc they "really needed her" well bc of that, half the damn office got sick. My thoughts, if you are sick go home and get better and don't contaminate the others.
and I don't know about the rest of you, but when I'm sick, I'm not very productive so basically I am costing the company money not helping them make money.
((((Hugs)))) feel better soon! I sure hope I do
