I mentioned in another thread about me attending a citizens police academy. Well, last week we had a class on internet crime against our children. The policeman that did the class sits at his computer all day and acts like he is a 13 year old female. He demonstrated in our class how much danger our kids can be in when on line. He signed in on a yahoo chat that was listed under study group under the girl that's 13. Within 5 minutes there were 4 men wanting to talk to her. 5 minutes later there were 16 men wanting to talk to her. This policeman is so good at his job that if you couldn't see him typing you would think he was really the girl. Anyway, this guy from the UK was really persistent about wanting to talk to her so the cop ended up singling him out and talking. The first words the perp typed was asking how old and what sex she was. The cop answered him and the conversation went on until the perp started getting really brave. He asked the "13 yr old girl" if she had ever seen a mans private parts (he didn't type private parts so I'll let you use your imagination) the cop typed in eww no! Well, the perp asked her if she wanted to see it and the "girl" went on to say she was afraid her mom might come in and see her. Well, after about 5 minutes of him trying his hardest to get her to look at his privates he finally talked her into it (at least he thought he was talking a girl into it, lol). The cop told us he would be sending a link to his web cam and sure enough he sent it. The perp tells her to click on the link and watch so the cop then tells everyone in the class if they don't want to be offended by some pretty graphic stuff they could leave, but of course our group didn't, we wanted to see how far the sicko would go. So the cop clicks on the link and the perps web cam showed up and there he was playing with himself until he was satisfied (so sick I know, but they are out there). The whole class was flipping out over this jerk so the cop types this..... "Wow your web cam is really clear, it's so clear I could see it great and so could 1000's of others that are here watching you. I'm a cop and you are busted. Can you please give me your name so when I see you in court I can say Hi?" Well, since the jerk is not in the US he knows that the cop can't do anything to him so he just keeps on doing his thing, even after the cop told him he got his isp addy. All of this happened within 15 minutes of this jerk talking to the so called 13 yr old girl. I knew things were happening in chat rooms but I didn't know the extent of it. My son is 19 now but when I bought him his first comp and any other ones it was always in the room where me and his dad were. The cop told us that a big percentage of kids have comps in their rooms. There is a site that you can go to, it's called kidsmartz, look it up and you'll be amazed at some of the things that goes on in chat rooms. The class sure opened my eyes! The best part about the cops doing this is they cannot be charged with entrapment because they do not ask to see anything on these men and sometimes women and they never ask for sex. The cop told us that they have 12 cases in court right now from catching these men in chat rooms trying to steal our children's innocent lives away from them. The town where I'm taking the class at is not very big at all so can you imagine how much of this goes on in the big cities? Ok, sorry my story was so long but I just had to get this off my chest! These men and women are getting away with this stuff every day all day long. If you go to the site I told you about you'll see that there are things us parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles and just friends can do to try and get these perverts off of the web and keep them away from our innocent children.

WOW...There are some real sick people in this world. I have a 7 year old son and he don't go on the interent unless either me or his dad is in the room. We have the computer in me and my husbands room.

I take it yall have never perused(sp) the archives of www.perverted-justice.com or watched "to catch a predator" on dateline in the last year. Check it out.

They recently (within the last two weeks) did the next installment of the dateline show here in my area. The people who live in the neighborhood where it was taped were LIVID that the show was authorized to use their neighborhood.
They said they were pissed that Dateline was inviting these sick people into their area when they wouldn't normally be there.
I personally wanted to b!tch slap everyone who complained. It's like they don't get that those type of people will go to ANY neighborhood and it doesn't matter if you and your neighbors are vigilant.
If anything, I would think it would discourage people from doing anything there because they'd be wondering if it was another sting!

What would you do? Would it bother you if they used your neighborhood to do a Dateline sting?

Then we must be in the same area (I always thought you were in Houston) cause I'm not far from where they shot it (45 mins or so). What do you think about the guy who shot himself? I don't have kids, so it probably wouldn't bother me if they did a sting in my neighborhood... not to mention that they arrested ppl who didn't even show up, so it's not like the ppl don't know that there really isn't a little girl/boy living there... no, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't bother me.

The 15th man down (Roland Restocruz) is stationed at Fort Stewart which is where we're at right now. The Army does alot of community work involving children and schools and it makes me sick to think he could have been near my son.

I have been seeing reports like this on dateline and other news channels. Lots of sickos!

My son is 8 and he has his own computer in his bedroom. However it is not connected to the internet. If he wants to go online he has to use my computer which is out in the dining room in view of me or his dad.

This is why parents should be monitoring EVERYTHING thier children do on the internet. You'd be suprised how many parents don't know ANYTHING about the Internet and let their children chat with anybody.

I also feel if something is lacking in the child's family life they turn to stranger's for some type of comfort not knowing that the person isn't their friend. Their are all type of sickos on the internet and most of the perverts won't be stopped so we must protect our own children.

I stay in Houston most of the time, but have two other homes away from home (near Dallas and near New Orleans).
The more I think about it, maybe it would bother me. Having the guys come to my neighborhood wouldn't bother me. They're being caught and I doubt they'll come back to that specific area.
It may bother me to think of the ones that got the address and didn't come. If the cops couldn't get enough info to find them, I wonder if the people even knew that they were part of Dateline's sting. If not, it would piss me off to think they'd come at a different time looking for the "child."

About the DA, I don't feel good that he killed himself, but what the hell was he thinking? He should have faced the consequences and, of all people, he should have known better!
For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would be interested in a child.

yeah my neighbors 14 year old daughter was picked up from school by a 32 year old man she met on the net. the found her in like North carolina. SCARY HUH. my kids aren't allowed on the computer unless i'm sitting right here with them, I have a computer generated password (like to have never got that thing memorized myself) that i had to use when i worked for the dept of emergency management. lol my kids would never figure it out.

I am a member of perverted justice and a volunteer on their forum and have had many chats with these gross animals and it is disgusting.... I pose as a 13 year old girl and a 12 year old boy. Sometimes it literally makes me sick to my stomach.
