What does a 'hot flash' feel like?

I'm peri-menopause and I've been having what I think are hot flashes for about a year. During the day I'll just suddenly feel really hot and have to start peeling off clothes, it only lasts a few minutes and I don't sweat much. The problem is at night when I'm sleeping I go through really intense periods of sweats where I wake up with my pj top soaked. It's happening 2 or 3 times every night and really disrupting my sleep. Is this a hot flash at night or something different?

thats it to a tee !!! i had to have a hystorctomy(spelling?) about 3 years ago, due to a 13 pound tumor on my ovary. i thought i was going to die !! i couldnt take hormones, due to a family history of cancer and blood clots, so i just suffered for a while. i got a free sample of remefeminin(spelling again?) and it helped a lot.

to me, it felt like standing in front of an extremely hot oven, and someone would turn on a fan every once in a while. and the night sweats, JEEZ !!!! having to change nightgowns, and sometimes the sheets, was a real bummer. i still have them occasionally, but it will get better, as your body adjusts.

To me, they felt like when you were a little kid, and KNEW you were in big trouble. Remember that flash of fear? That's my hot flash fun.

    That's a hot flash allright.

Hot flashes seem, to me anyway, to come from the inside out. They are embarassing, your red face is there for all the world to see. They cause you to get nasty with people, in part I think because they make you loose sleep by waking you up in the middle of the night.

I hope you never have them as bad as I do. I was having hot flashes well before I was 45, when I was 45, they seemed to get worse. Aunt Flo has not been to my house since February 14, 1998 (yep, I remember her last visit). I still have hot flashes, especially if I have been stressed.

Good luck to you. Try some of that Remifemin that the other poster told you about. It should help you.

Well, thank you all, I'm actually very relieved, was getting worried about the night ones. I'll try the remifrem and the link tngirl posted has good info on what to eat and what vitamins to take, I think I will also switch to soy milk and see if it helps.
