Spells for the Kitchen Witch

Toothpick Love Spell

If you find yourself having problems in a relationship, try this age-old ritual to get on better terms with your loved one. First, take a piece of bread and use a toothpick or other similar item to inscribe that person's name into the bread. Then place the piece of bread into a toaster or warm oven, visualizing your chilly relations "warming up" as the bread heats up. Know that both people in the relationship are responsible for being receptive to a discussion and better relationship with each other. Once the piece of toast is done, apply butter and visualize it as a healing salve that you are applying to the other person. Then take the piece of toast, bury it in a safe place, and prepare yourself to approach the person so that the healing may begin. By Sheri Richerson.

A Picnic Spell

To keep the ants from overrunning your picnic, lay out your feast and then say the following:

For our goodies you may yearn--
Sister Ant, please wait your turn.
Don't rush in to steal our food.
There's no need to be rude.
We won't eat up every crumb.
If you're patient you'll get some.
We will leave them when we're through;
We'll leave a picnic just for you.
Be true to your word and leave a few offerings for the ants to enjoy once you are done. By Elizabeth Barrette.

Pancake Prosperity Spell

Make up a batch of buckwheat pancakes. Pour them onto the griddle in the shape of a dollar sign. Visualize. Cook, flip, and serve with maple syrup (another money-attractant). By Scott Cunningham.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chili Pepper Protection Spell

To boost your protective energies, gather together some chili pepper and basil. Run your fingers through the herbs, allowing your energies to attune to them. Say: "I call upon the guardian powers of chili pepper and basil. I ask that you bless my spell with your protective energies." In a glass bowl, combine the herbs with warm water. Hold the bowl in your left hand and hold your right hand open over the water. Say: "I call upon the horned god, protector of all, to charge this liquid with the powers of the guardian." Anoint yourself at each chakra point with the liquid. Fell yourself surrounded by the loving protection of the divine. Take the remaining liquid and sprinkle it at each opening to your home. By Kristin Madden.

Abundance Spell

The Romans honoured Ceres, the goddess of grains. To tap into her energy, make a magickal porridge for abundance being mindful of what each ingredient represents. Your intention will make it so.

1½ cups whole-grain wheat, for abundance
½ tsp salt, to manifest the spell
¼ cup honey, for happiness,
¼ cup walnuts, for intelligence
¼ cup almonds, for well-being
1 tsp Cinnamon, for abundance
½ cup raisins, for dreams
Soak the grain in water for 24 hours, drain and rinse it. In a heavy pot add 4 cups boiling water to the grain. Simmer for 5 hours until the wheat is tender. Make sure the cereal does not cook dry; add water if necessary. When tender, drain excess water and add salt. Add honey and cook on low heat until the honey is incorporated. Add nuts, cinnamon and raisins. Cook until heated. As you eat, savour the abundance you are drawing into your life. By Lily Gardner-Butts.

New Pot Blessing

To bless a new pot, light your favorite incense. Draw a pentagram on the inside and outside bottom of the pot with a wooden spoon, saying: "Blessings of earth for abundance." Pass the pot through the incense, saying: "Blessings of air for fragrance." Turn on the burner of your stove and place the pot on the flame carefully, saying: "Blessings of fire for purity in preparation." Stir in a little water, saying: "Blessings of water for love." Prepare a favourite food in your new pot and share it with someone you love. By Cerridwen Iris Shea.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stitch a Wish

To bring any positive wish you desire, take a sewing needle and red thread, a white handkerchief, a white candle, and your favorite incense. On the night of a full moon, as close to midnight as possible, light the candle and incense. Pass the handkerchief through the smoke of the incense, and think of your wish. Sew the thread through the handkerchief in any shape you desire, while saying:

With each stitch this spell I fix;
With this thread the spell is fed.
What I want will come to me;
This is the way it must be!

Repeat the charm three times. Extinguish the candle and incense. Place the handkerchief beneath your pillow and expect a prophetic dream concerning your wish.

Hide the handkerchief and repeat the spell in one lunar month if needed. Source unknown.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hestia’s Hearth Spell

When you feel stuck about an issue, blocked, or simply need a different point of view, try this: Light a candle to the goddess Hestia, burn some incense that makes you feel happy, put your favourite music on, and pick up your favorite broom. Sweep the house as you sing along with the music. Dance with the broom, and have fun, visualizing all your blocks being swept into the pile of dirt you’re collecting. Brush it into a dustpan and dispose of it outside of your immediate living space. Sit down, drink a favorite beverage, and let a fresh point of view filter through. By Cerridwen Iris Shea.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Clean Clothes Spell

After you have a bad experience you should wash the bad vibes out of your clothes. To do so, allow your washing machine to fill with water, then stop the machine briefly while you do the spell. Take a small amount of salt (no more than a teaspoon) in one hand. With the other hand, touch the surface of the water, saying: “Blessed are you, O creature of water, be thou cleansed and cleansing.” Then touch the salt, and say: “Blessed are you, creature of earth. Be thou purified and purifying.” Then put the salt in the water, and say: “Together, banish evil.” Stir the wash three times clockwise, then wash as usual. By Magenta Griffith.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Canning Spell

A simple ritual to ensure that jars will seal is to first wipe the top rim of the jar with a hot, clean sponge before placing the lid in position and screwing down the rim. Then with the tip of your finger, inscribe a pentagram on the lid, saying words like: "Lid seal--protect this meal!" By Pauline Campanelli.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vegetable Magick

Working with your hands in the soil is one of the best ways of becoming closer to the land and relating to the gods and goddesses of fertility. Use seed magick for spells which involve growth for advancement, and for changes in direction. For long-term change, start at the moment you plant the seed, but in the case of slow growers (like vegetables) use seedlings form any stage of growth. When you plant the individual seed or seedling invoke the Mother Goddess and dedicate your spell to her, asking for what you need. As you nurture your plant so are you nurturing the spell. You can use the colour of the intended crop as your guide to which plant will best advance your plant magick, or you can choose a vegetable that corresponds to your desired outcome. For example, grow beets for passion, daisies for new beginnings, or green peppers for prosperity. For the magickal properties of food see the Magickal Correlations of Ingredients page of A Kitchen Witch's Book of Shadows. By Kate West.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chocolate Cake Spell

Even under ordinary circumstances, chocolate cakes are pretty magical. Baked with love, this food nurtures and protects on many levels. However, to add extra energy to this celestial food, make sure one of its ingredients is cinnamon.

Take a cinnamon stick and grind it down yourself, preferably in a mortar, sending the energy of love and protection into the powder. As you sprinkle it into the mixture, say:

“Hathor bless this cake with the power to protect. May your divine milk nurture all who taste it, and the spice of thy magic bless my homestead.” By Kala Trobe
