lets start with the weather shall we..IT SUCKS!! kinda scary what with all the power (lights) out. looked like we were on teh fa side of the moon, and most everyine hwo lives in this complex, bugged out to either shelters or homes of family or freind who had power and heat. *shrug* my mom was the only who had power..of all my kin. an i was not DRIVING in the lv 3 ICE STORM!!! that is not on my list of "things to do" an the lovely 6 inchs of snow AFTER the fact..well, that was just ..FUN!! <--*in case you couldn't tell that was sarcasm*

ok, now, the good news, we survived it. just got power back bout an hour ago 11:30am on sat. it went out wed 2 am. we are very much blessed with a bestest freind who needed a kerosene heater for her home ( and decided i needed one as well), she drove south till she found a store that had one available. she called me from DAYTON she had found 2. (we are in lima, yeah dead in the middle of the ice) booyah! then she drove back through the "level 3 emergency" to my place, brought the heater in and the kerosene, and we fired it up! now mind, i had set up about 30 candles, and 4 oil lamps so we had a lil bit of heat and lots of light all teh candles were in front of a huge mirror..to reflect the heat/light. worked GREAT!! wasn't till i opened the door for her to come in that it got cold. i also had a setup via tealight candles to be able to fry eggs an boil water...so we were ok.
gotta say.. we were darned lucky. we were warm and happy, while so many were cold. i have a crank radio so we could listen to music and news..it worked out well. *G* oh an by the way? water heaters will hold the water hot for several days. just in case y'all ever need to know.
it was absolutely hideous out there. all in all it coulda been REAL bad if we hadn't had running water.

We got hit with ice Tues night and they said it would heat up ad melt off by Friday(50's) but nothing yet, still in 30's.

I am lucky i guess cuz i have a gas stove so i would still have heat and be able to cook some.
I am a tealight fanatic and always have hundreds, yes hundreds on hand...i love candlelight in the winter

we had an ice storm here about a week ago...it really sucks.
I didn't drive at all,too risky

those storms stink....the '98 storm was evil...6 bloody weeks with NO power. pretty stinky...lol. glad you made it okay...

*blink*...*blink blink* umm, 6 ..6 weeks? ye GODS!!
well, i suppose we'd have been ok, but dang.. i am jsut glad more didna die. i beleive there was one elderly couple that was overcome in their sleep. their heat source gave off carbon monoxide*?* and they passed. i'm surprised more didna pass.
Gotta give a BIG ole BOOYAH! to the AEP people, i mean they realy did work their tales off and in the worst weather conditions immaginable. *HUG* to them!!
i am telling you, tea lights, tealight candle lanterns and a huge mirror? we had enough heat to keep us comfortable. it was weird, my door faces east. when i went out go out after a few days? had to literly basdh my screen door...it was frozen shut!!! but that was all to the good, the ice coated all the nooks an crannies, so ended up sheilding us from the wind & cold. i mean my car was one of say 4 in the entire lot, and as far as i could see? mine was the only apt lit up. oh, did i mention how much i love & adore tealights and oil lamps? heck yeah!! i have 4 oil lamps now, and am luvvin them to pieces!! they put out light and heat, and use very little oil. wow. just wow. all my anal retentiveness "what if this happens, we might need such an such" sure did cover our butts big time!! my bestest freind also brought me 4 gas cylinders for my tiny gas grill. i would have figured a way to use it if need be!! well gotta go..

PS: whenever i move? i am gonna make sure my next abode will have either a gas stove, and or a fireplace.

Hey there...Azriel_LittleHawk, I am in St. Marys Ohio..dang we are neighbors.. we go shopping alot to Lima Oh.

And yep we got that ice storm too.. just got our power back on last night(friday) was off 49hrs.. some still are off(country).. we didnt have a shelter to go to.. our whole town was out different times dueing this...heard ya couldnt find a generator around, some had to drive to Columbus Oh to buy one.
It is a storm i hope we never ever get again.. Liked to frozed to death during the night

glad you guys are all ok............I survived an ice storm in 2000 that lasted way too long......we were out of power for 15 days and some longer than that........all you could here in our little area of the world was genarators running full blast lol It wasn't until this year that we finally got all the downed trees taken care of in the pastures at our place. I feel for anyone that goes through an ice storm

yep....north east got hit hard...5 days straight ing '98. some part (mostly in canada) were out that long....i was directly on the border literally. my aunt was out 5 weeks. we were lucky. our was back on in 2 days because we draw of a street where there were 2 ppl on life support machines in home....only reason ours went up...first group. 10,000 poles down. split a 6 ft. tree (that would be circumfrence not hight) in our front yard right down the middle from the weight! pole trucks and line trucks came from cali and every thing...nasty stuff. we had 6 inches of ice in my area. glad it was not that bad in your area. evil stuff that ice when it wants to be!
