Unbelievable!

Ok, I just need to vent this because I am SO mad right now. A couple of days ago I went on the mspca website and applied for financial assistance to get my kitten fixed. I found here and rescued her near my house and I really don't have the money to get her fixed as the lowest quote I got around here was $257 with shots! I filled out the whole application be considered and I just got a letter today stating that I am not eligible because I am a college student! They stated that "Those who are able to attend college are relying on family to do so and therefore are NOT ELIGIBLE for the discount". Ok, so because I am trying to further my education, I am not eligible. Guess what? My parents dont pay a darn thing for me! They can't afford to help so I pay all of my college tuition and costs, living expenses, everything! Oh yeah, and I cannot get financial assistance for college because I actually work and hold down a job. Frankly right now I have to quit school next semester because I cannot afford it with no aid. I have looked everywhere for aid. I cannot get my kitten fixed because I don't have the money, so I guess I'll just drop the kittens she has off at the MSPCA and let them spend 5 times as much money fixing those cats. I just want to quit my job and go on welfare like all of the kids I graduated with do. Then I could go to school for free and focus on my education instead of trying to work full time and do school full time which is SO hard especially around christmas. This country is just teaching me that education is a bad thing, a work ethic is a bad thing, and I should just sit at home and live off of the hard work of others. This is just so depressing for me, it just seems like college students are the scum of the earth the way financial institutions treat us. Walk into a bank to get a loan, sorry your in college we dont want you. I am SO sick of worrying about all of this, I just wish our government would realize how very important education is and help honest college students out instead of people who choose not to work because it is easier.
(I know a lot of people are on welfare because they NEED it, which is totally understandable, but I know a lot of kids who are on it because they won't have to work that way, that is who I am talking about)

Well if you made it this far, thank you for listening, I just don't know what to do anymore! I feel a little better now.

Re: Unbelievable!

You could also call the local vets and see if there are local programs that help you. When I was like 14 I rescued a cat we found outside our house and was able to get assistance through a local program. Since the cat was mine, they didn't ask for any of my parent's info. I believe at the time I did have a pt job at a restaurant there also. Hope you can find some help! It's so expensive in some places to get an animal fixed. I know out here, there TONS of places that will do it for very little...

Re: Unbelievable!

Do you have a local humane society? Around here one has a deal with vet for $25 spay/neutering (based on your income) and the other humane society anyone who is a member can get half price spay/neutering.

Re: Unbelievable!

My little town is surrounded by touristy rich towns so all of the vets in my area are incredibly expensive and they don't do ANYTHING for free or reduced, I checked. They charge 200 just for the sterilization, which is absolutely incredible. I do not have a local humane society, I live in MA and the only thing in my area is the MSPCA, and as you can see, they are pretty useless. I'm tempted to call them monday and tell them that if they can't help me spay my kitten, when she has a litter of her own I will make sure I drop them off there so they can take care of fixing 5 or 6 cats instead of one! Lol, I wouldn't do that, I will just have to find the money somewhere. Thank you all so much for your ideas!

Re: Unbelievable!

Thank you very much, spayusa has a form to fill out where they send you a certificate that allows you a discount on spaying your cat. I applied for that and also the last link sends information about low cost clinics in your area. Thank you so much for all of your help! It is really appreciated!

Re: Unbelievable!

No problem! I believe on the last link they had neutering for $40 and spaying for $55... which is WAY better than $200+ I'm glad I could have helped.

Re: Unbelievable!

the fact that you work qualifies you for more financial aid than you would get if you're not working. i couldn't go to college because i didn't work at the time, and i was only eligable for about $500 in assistance. the rep i worked with told me if i had any type of job at all, i would be eligible for much more money, especially if you live away from your parents. it doesn't make sense that you can't get aid while working. what state are you in?

Re: Unbelievable!

In college we couldn't get free housing because my husband worked. Our next door neighbors lived there free because his parents supported them.
Sorry to hi jack but had to comment when you said what they told you about going to college.

Re: Unbelievable!

Yeah, I live in MA, and i tried and tried for financial aid and all they would offer me was an unsubsidized stafford loan in a grand total of $650 which with the interest rate, I just used the little savings I had instead. The fact that I work kills me with financial aid because I'm taking in money. I checked with FAFSA and my schools financial aid office and if I did not have a job, they would cover me a lot more with grants. Even if I work part time, I still will not qualify for enough to make a difference. I just can't bring myself to not work, I would hate to make other hard working people pay for my college. I just wish there was more assistance thats all. I know a LOT of college kids are going through the same thing I am. I also know a lot of kids that mommy and daddy are paying for college, and they're too busy partying to actually go to class, and it kills me, I just want to tell them to go party and I'll go to school instead! Thanks everyone for listening and helping!
