I would ask why. If nothing else you deserve an explaination of why they are doing this. You are an adult and you need to know why and what the substitution will be for future events.
Ask why before you take out the boxing gloves. Then if they don't give you a satisfactory answer, take the gloves out.

Re: oh.. oaaaaaak.. grr.#$%#
ok ive come up with this to put in a letter... a copy of which will be sent to the superintendant... that *insert nasty word* who gets paid 200 grand a year...
• Decision made not by vote but by committee. Who gave you the right to speak for everyone?
• The needs of the one outweigh the needs of the many. How many children in the school actually have an allergy of any sort? National statistics state that only 1 percent of people have a food allergy. 1% of 450 students in 5 grades is 4.5 children Obesity problems? You speak for all of the parents with such problems?
• Quoting obesity lets look at the cafeteria.
• Not all parents have the ability to visit the school on the child’s birthday to participate in fun and games.
• Why wasn’t this voted for during a PTA meeting? Are you afraid of letting the staff and ALL PARENTS VOTE ON THIS??? we are able to make our own decisions.
• Why isn’t this a district wide policy? Does the superintendent know about this?

Re: oh.. oaaaaaak.. grr.#$%#
my girls can take cupcakes as long s they are store bought and not homemade... at least they could at their old school
I know a lot of schools are putting an end to unhealthy foods in the schools no matter what the reason. I think its a crock of crap, its not like they eat cake every day in class.

• With 24 children in a classroom the maximum amount of cupcakes would be 24 out of 180 days of school. Surely a child with PROACTIVE parents who practice Proactive parenting can work with others to circumvent the 24 days of cupcakes.

I am one who does not want home made foods brought in by parents. I have no idea how clean their kitchen is, if they licked the spoon while stirring the batter, or if they even washed their hands before making them. Store bought treats are safer for everyone. The schools also have to look out for lawsuits if a child were to get sick from eating home made treats.
Did the scissors hit your younger child? Hope he/she is ok!!

I have to agree. You don't know if the parents are using the counters to cut or use drugs, if they sanitized their counter after cutting meat or poultry or if they have a communicable disease. Sad commentary yes, but my kids are more important. Most schools are no longer able to hold bake sales, or for kids to bring in any un-prepackaged snacks for celebrations. Just like with Halloween candy, I would want the opportunity to check anything unwrapped, and while at school I cannot.

I'm with the other two, and I work in a school. You do not know how many of these kids are ill kept, and then they bring in homebaked goods?! Our school allows them, but the school we were at in Virginia had a store bought only policy.

Re: oh.. oaaaaaak.. grr.#$%#
i guess im peeved because i will see parents continually bringing in dogs into the school... i so hate that but dont say a word.... they do this when they are at dissmissal time in the lobby.... talk about sanitation!
the cafeteria lady doesnt use gloves when she puts 4 chicken nuggets on my kids tray with her bare hands... and he walks away with only 4 nuggets no fruit or veggies...an empty tray
they dont use bleach to sanitize the tables... they use baby wipes...
i knew people who worked at the tasty cake plant... you dont want to know....
i guess what gets me po'd.. is why they couldnt bring this up for vote with all of the parents in the school. send home a paper stating this... let all of the parents get a chance to vote on it b4 you decide to make it banned.
as a parent who does or doenst want those homemade cupcakes present in the classroom.... how hard would it be to sign a consent form? pass out a consent form...
"i DO/DONOT (circle one) want my child eating homemade items or other food stuffs brought in to the classroom.
this includes birthdays and other holiday celebrations."

I totally agree about the homemade goodies at school.I know my kitchen is spotless,I clean up every night and disinfect my counters and cutting boards. My friend is a wonderful person who would do anything for anyone, however,I have seen her kitchen and it's acky...even has creepy crawlys *if ya know what I mean so,nope I wouldn't want my kidos eating homemade goodies.

Well, I will say it for you--Smithtown stinks, and kids cannot be kids here. In the words of my sister, unbelievable......
I re-read your thread...can they still bring in any snacks for a celebration???? I notice now we don't have Christmas or Holiday parties...they are called Winter Parties and Fall Festival.....the PCing of America goes on......
