Unhappy Another school vent/whine

It seems like that every week one of my three daughters need something else for school.
Well today my 11 yr old comes home and says she need stuff for home ec class(they never give you much time to get the stuff either-I reckon they think we are all made out of money) I asked her what she needed and they are making cookies out of cake mix and she has to bring her own cake mix, eggs, stick of butter, and pot holder.
When I was in home ec the food supplies were provided(and that was before the lottery)
They also have a point system and to get their points up they have to bring in bandaids, kleenex, etc(the thing about this is I feel it does not teach the kids anything except let your parents buy your points for you) and another thing is unless we bring in indiviual tylenol, bandaids, etc for our kids when they need them for headaches or whatever they charge like 50 cents per tylenol, bandaid, etc

I just dont understand having to furnish your own cake mix. Like you said when we were in school that was all included in the class. I also cant believe you have to take bandaids and tylenol. I send kleenex but I know how many my DD uses and dont think sending a box is bad.

Man! I never had to buy anything for my home ec class either (only thing we purchased were index cards to write recipies on). I can't beleive they make you pay for bandaids! But as for Tylenol/aspirin they won't even give any to your child here, unless you bring it into the office yourself, and tell them to (they don't keep any at the school). When I was in school, and was not well, the e nurse gave me soda crackers and had me lie down, and if I had a headache, I got an aspirin (this was before I learned was allergic) and then I would feel ill, and get a soda cracker (LOL! was ill becuase of the aspirin).
But it does grate on my nerves when we get a letter from the school, for this feield trip, or that field trip, saying we need this much $, and it is due either in a few days, or the next week..I would like at least 2 weeks notice, before finding out i need to purchase something oelse/send in more $..

The only classes in school I remember ecer having to buy extra for were the sewing parts of home ec (we needed out own sewing supplies (with the exception of needles), and fabric), art class..had to purchase our own art supplies, and choir (had to purcashe my own black robe to wear for concerts)...

Sounds like the parents need to throw a fit and find out where all the money is going that is supposed to fund these classes, I know here in our area I have heard stories, like the kids have to wear their coats in the school in a town next to us, cause the school won't turn the heat up to keep it warm. Then I hear that teachers are being fired all over, why all of a sudden is it all going to pooh. I think some major auditing might need to be done, or that it ought to be public where all the money is going, after all the kids are the ones losing out. And does anyone else think that if the kids can't have air conditioning why should the principal????
edited to add: I agree with the above poster, we had to provide our own material, but otherwise home ec was always taken care of. Art supplies at our school were 1/2 provided, we had to pay for our own special supplies that we got in a big kit, but the school paid for the paper, pencils, and that sort of thing.

Wanted to add kleenex are added into the supply lists for the start of the year for the classes here, so we send a about twice a year (once at the start of school, and once right around the time the kids go back from Christmas break).

If I would be asked to pay for bandaids/tissues, etc. I would freak. Here I pay school fees as well for each child, per class per year. Usually around $45 per child.

at my school, the WHOLE school was air conditioned..But most of the schools I have been in (about 5) all of the rooms in the school are the same..if one has air they all did..I have been in some schools who didn't have air conditioning, but on days that it got REALLY hot, school was cancelled. My son's school is ALL un-airconditioned, but they have fans in all of he rooms, and they cancel school, if it gets to hot.

In the town where i was raised until last year the principals office was the only one air conditioned and around where i live now is the same. I remember sitting in class with fans blowing and not doing a bit of good. I also remember thinking man do i need to wear deodarant on my whole body as we all would just sweat so badly. It was awful.

gosh, when i was in home ec. i guess, i don't know if that was the name of the class or not, but we never had to buy things, the only project we did have to pay for was only like $5.00 and it was to buy a kit, something with the materials to make a pillow or boxers ( i made boxers) for the sewing part...i even had a history teacher that would bring food from home (eggs, floir, biscuits, bacon) and take us all into the kitchen room (lab) and make us breakfast every once in a while...it was nice to be a senior..lol.

I did have to pay for my material for dress(or whatever)in high school but the cooking class we all went shopping as a class and everyone had their own lists and the school paid for it all.
Kleenex is also on our supply list at the beginning of the year and so is neosporin(sp?),and what the indivual teacher adds like one year it was paper towels, and one teacher wanted deorderizing candles, and plug-ins(they even but down what scents to get) I just feel that is ridiculous-
My oldest daughter is in HS and she complains that it is cold in the rooms and she has to wear her jacket
And all of these fundraisers they have is getting crazy-My oldest brought home a paper to sell cookie dough the other day for one of her elective classes-the cheapest dough was $11 and went up to $15-The students had to watch a video about selling these and was told that they sell themselves and they should be able to sell 30 tubs and their fair share was 15 mininum-my daughter got all stressed out about this cause there was no way we could sell that many-my sister called the school and asked about it and noone in the office knew anything about it and what it was for(they are supposed to be approved by the office)

EDITED to add: if they go to the nurse and need a bandaid etc
and do not have the money they keep track of the "dues" and they are not allowed to get their report cards

My daughter is in 7th grade and if she needs a pad for her monthly she has to pay 50 cents!, It is getting rediculous....What if you don't have it?, When I was a kid we didn't have to pay for neccesseties....It is getting to expensive to even send your kids to school....now that is bad......
