I showed this to Aggie. He's retired military....says that it's true but you have to decide for yourself what you believe and don't. They (commander/chief) will never let the "full story" out. In other words it's a 1/2 truth.
We'll never know what the conditions are like and what the "real" rate of deaths are. They will say it's "military" related but won't state it's due to stress, not being paid, not being able to go home, poor living conditions......
Per Aggie not me....I'm only typing what he said. He's doing better today.

To OP, Thank you for the infomation. I hadn't heard about it. I can understand the service people being stress about the times being told they will come home and don't get to, and the stresses of home life and not being part of it and not being able to help in anyway. And from things I have read, of families being evicted or foreclosed from their homes, apt, because the incomes not the same, -or having to hire a babysitter because the couple shared this chore when the service person was home, -or death and births that the sevice person wasn't home for, -or the jobs that will be lost when the service person comes back because the company they worked for has moved out of the country or has down sized or just closed up, -or the fact that when they were sent over there they were told it was because Saddam had WMD and might use them, And as of yet it isn't true and they were lied too and so was the rest of the USA and the rest of the world. And all I can say is "Shame on the Liars and the people that have voted for them or will vote for them again even though they know they were lied to, and won't admit, and rite the wrong that was done because of the lies". I myself know that the lies that have been told in the last few years are worse because these lies have killed people. And eye's can be closed to the lies all you want but it won't bring the lifes that have been lost back. IMRO

I totally agree with Tech on this one. And I was not lied to. And I will vote for Bush again, if I feel he is the best candidate.
Also, as far as military families go, yes I pray for them daily and I feel for them. But, when you VOLUNTARILY join the service, war is the risk you take.

The quote is interesting but what it doesn't say is most of the chain of command doesn't know (until the last minute) who is going to replace who. Soldiers are usually told to a certain number of months for a deployment but are also told it could be as long as 12 months. The stress does cause additional hardship but that is what soldiers do....they cope with hardship on a daily basis. Families of soldier members also learn to cope with the hardships of military life. The government has been known to do some pretty sneaky things but I don't think they would withhold redeployment information if the correct information is available. My hubbie was in Afghanistan for 8 months. We were originally told 4-6 but it could be as long as 12....magic number. The military is a volunteer situation and reservists are counseled regarding financially responsibilities, how long a company is required to "hold" a position, and all other "problems" of being in a unit that is activated. Personally, reserve units are there to be activated if the need arises. If a person is not willing to make the sacrifices required, then he/she should never enlist.

Best I recall (read the article early this morning) it was about Iraq only. Don't remember any mention of Afgahanistan. I remember there being four or five cases within weeks of each other of murder/suicides at Ft. Bragg.

I asked because there were several reports on the local news in NC (High Point) during the fall of 2002 about men stationed at Ft Bragg who came back from Afghanistan and later murdered their wives. I really don't remember if they were strictly murders or murder/suicides.

Did you also hear about the coffin ban? Its been awhile but I watched CNN one night where they discussed the fact that the media for a long time has been allowed to go and film the unloading of the coffins at the military bases when the coffins arrive, but no more, the Bush administration is no longer allowing this.

You know you bring up a really good point after that happened they need to have more than 2 hrs counseling for the men and certainly should have had counseling sessions with the wives on how to help their husbands deal with things and also alert them to warning signs of depression and mental instability. My SIL is coming home soon I am a little worried they have a baby that is a handful like all babies.
