Why do some parents let their kids abuse them? - Page 3 - Big Big Forums

Oh this is one thing that I absolutely cannot stand -parents that refuse to make their children behave in public.

I have four girls and I can honestly say that MOST of the time my girls are very well behaved in public. Now that my two oldest are in the teenish years (15 and 12), they're getting a bit of the smart mouth on them and there have been a few times they've tested me or become argumentative with each other and this is what I do: I walk up to them with the most dead-serious look I can muster and very loudly (loud enough so that EVERYBODY around me can hear me -aisles away even) I say "If you don't stop your sassing/whining/arguing (whatever the case may be) I am going to bust your butt right here before God and everybody."

Well, the stern look and the fact that I'm SO loud about it makes them scared to death, because they think if I don't care to be so loud and let EVERYONE know what I plan to do, then I sure as heck would follow through and actually DO it. AND it pretty much stops any nosy busybodies from interfering because they've heard me warn them and they know they've been misbehaving and I think my loudness may even intimidate THEM as well. LOL

Thankfully it works and I haven't had to actually spank them, and my little ones are really good, too. I can take them down any candy or toy aisle and never have them whine or cry for anything. They don't even WANT anything (which is a curiosity I have yet to figure out).

My kids would never even think of trying to touch me. I have often told them that I don't care if we are in public that I am not afraid to spank their bottoms and they know that it is not an idle threat!! My girls are well behaved for the most part and they also use please, thank you, execuse me, yes or no, etc ma'am and sir.

OMG, I wish I could go to a store with my 4-year old and say that...
I don't know why she just wants to touch and grab everything, and wants everything,it's a total nightmare I don't even like going shopping with her.

And nothing ever works with her. Not the nice talking, explaining or stern talk, not the grounding and not even spanking. She is determined to get her way, she totally forgets everything said and done, and even acts out worst afterwards. I feel so helpless sometimes, although I don't let her see that, my head wants to explode.
