My Knight
I love you, God-you make me strong. God is bedrock under my feet, the
castle in which I live, my rescuing knight. My God-the high crag where
I run for dear life. Ps. 18:1, 2, Message.
---------------------
Battles in life are inevitable. Change usually causes a fierce
struggle. Right now I'm in a battle between the forces of good and
evil. It comes down to who I'm going to allow to control my life. For a
long time I've let a negative attitude envelop me. I see the bad
instead of the good in life. I am sick of my life in the pits. My
attitude of gloom is subconscious. I brush away the good that comes my
way and rip myself up over the things that don't go perfectly. Right
now I feel totally helpless, but that's where my Knight comes in.
Yes, my Knight. Maybe fairy tales are true. He rides over the fields on
a beautiful horse, hair streaming behind Him, eyes shining with love, a
peaceful smile on His kind face, with a Bible in His outstretched hand.
He calls through the gloom, darkness, and despair: "Fear not, I will
conquer. Do not doubt, I will save. Though the night is dark and the
storm fierce, though it seems impossible, though it seems all hope is
fading and your dreams are in pieces, I will rescue you, for you
called. I will strengthen you; I will restore all that was taken and
make it better than before. Hold on, and you will see the sun again.
Never fear; I am here."
You see, my knight is Jesus. He has promised me in His lifeline to
fallen humans: "Never will I leave thee, never will I forsake thee." "I
will complete the good work I began in you." "I have loved you with an
everlasting love. I have drawn you with lovingkindness." His precious
promises give me hope, hope that better things will come if I trust Him
to do His work of restoring me to what He knows will be best for me.
I still fight the impossible and run up against walls, but He always
comes when I call, riding into my heart, breaking my gloom and giving
me hope. It's a battle, I know, but if I keep trusting my Knight, the
sun will shine again, and I will conquer through Him.
O Lord, be our knight this day. Come rescue us from our human-made
hell. Free us from the negative pall that controls our thoughts. Bring
us deliverance so we may see the sun of joy instead of the night of
darkness that we too easily let envelop us. Amen.
