I have to have a biopsy on my thyroid
Some of you may remember my post asking about hypothyroidism. Well I finally had my appt with the endocrinologist yesterday and they did an ultrasound on my thyroid and found a large "something". I know that my thyroid has been swelling on the left side for several months but I didn't think anything about it, just assumed that it was swelling lol. Now I know that it isn't actually swollen but the "something" that is making it look that way. I'm not worried about the results of the biopsy, I mean I went through a breast biopsy last year and it was fine so I know this will be too but DANG I know this is gonna be WAY uncomfortable!!!! I'm not too thrilled about having ANYTHING done on that area of my neck....OUCH!
The biopsy is scheduled for July 7th. He wanted it done either this week or next but there wasn't an opening this week and he is going on vacation next week I just wanna get this over with b/c he won't start me on any thyroid meds till after the biopsy results come in, which means I have to miserable for another month. Darn doctor and his vacation

Is it possible for your physician to place a red flag on your name so that if any of his patients cancels on him (for whatever reason), you can have their time and get your surgery done that much sooner?
I understand you will be in pain when you have this procedure done but what's worse...being in pain for a short amount of time or permitting this "thing" to continue to grow and become something much worse?
On a side note: when I was pregnant with my first child, my physician went on vacation, too, and I vowed to 'hold it in' until he got back....and I did. When I was pregnant with my second child, my physician was sent by the military (he was active duty at the time and might still be) to be the physician to look after the medical needs of those searching for our MIA's in Laos (even after all these years they are still searching).

Hope things aren't too unbearable until your appointment. Will keep you in my thoughts that everything goes well. I know how scary it is to have to wait for results and wait to get things taken care of. I had to play that game about 3 months ago with some "female" type things. Hang in there!!!!!!!

I had a Thyroid biopsy last April....it really was not that bad, and I am scared to death of needles. They numb the area before they ever stick you with anything....well, they gave me a shot in the neck first, but it wasn't that bad. I have nodules on my thryroid, and since I have been taking my Synthroid, they are going down...strange but true!!!! I have 2 that are pretty god size, and then 2 more that are smaller! Let me know how it turns out!

Relax
its not painful at all. I had the biopsy two times on two different lumps that were cysts. Both times I had them removed and the last time they took half my thyroid. It was not painful at all, and I also have to take synthroid. If you have to have it removed be sure to have a good surgeon that does not make a huge sloppy job on stiches/staples. My doctor did a wonderful job and nobody notices unless I point it out. Good luck.
