Question Am I Responsible???

I was wondering in your opinion am I responsible for an envelope that gets distroyed during shipping if the person didn't request insurance??? The person paid me for some coupons/formula checks and I sent them but now they are saying the envelope was empty when they recieved it saying it was open. Am I now responsible for that and have to give them their money back??? I don't want to be a bad trader, I wasn't sure if I would be responsible for the post office mistakes or not. Please tell me what you think!
Thank you!

I did edit to add that they were coupon/formula checks!

In my opinion, your NOT resposible! I can't think of anyone who would waste money insuring coupons anyway

Next time double tape the envelope

Well personally since this wasn't a big ticket item I'd probably refund the money. Because like someone said above, who is going to insure coupons ? However if we were talking about an item of value (like $10+) than I would say no. Technically your not liable but you could show a gesture of goodwill and refund the money, or just half of it.

well I know you can't insure gift certificates so I assume you can't insure coupons or checks..not sure though. People always try to charge me insurance for gc's on ebay and I tell them no way bc the post office will throw out the claim anyway

Question

The amount of money involved is 12.50! It was my sister-in-laws formula checks so it is her money not mine. I figured it had to be the machines cause she said the bottom half was gone that is what I understood her to say. I made the comment that maybe it was the postal machines to her but I haven't heard back yet to see what she says.
