I have to agree with you...we did our booth Friday night. What happened to a simple "no, thank you"?

I just about always buy when kids are selling for scouting or schools also. My cousin was taking the orders for the gs cookies and I ordered 4 boxes, 2 caramel/coconut, 1 chocolate peanut butter, and a thin mints. YUMMY><><><><> Now I can't have any of them, I started my diet...I took one for my son and give the rest away.. At least someone will enjoy them.

Life isn't about handouts. But even there - I just politely refuse and go on my way. It's probably just me and other people don't mind this.

I think youre right to an extent. But where do you think these kids learn it? Several times a year around here they see firemen, policemen and others stand in parking lots and on the street collecting money for various charitys. IMO I dont see how we can teach our kids to work for and earn the money they need when they see some of the people they look up to standing with donation cans. I can explain it to my kids but they still dont understand the difference in "raising money for charity" and "earning money for camp etc"

I totally argee though about the rude people these days. I cant walk by a booth of kids and not get something lol. It breaks my heart to see them standing there working so hard and then getting their hearts broken when people are mean.

PEOPLE ARE NASTY!!!

I am a cubscout Mom!!! I am also the fundraising chairperson for our Pack and Hubby is a den leader! I always buy my girl scout cookies from one of Hubby's coworkers who buys our Popcorn in the fall. But one of my scouts Moms is a den leader for girl scouts so I buy from her also. Then it never fails that I go to walk into my local grocery store and one of girls asks me. I never say NO. I usually have to buy atleast one box. I guess its because I hate for my "boys" to be told no.
The one thing I hate though is the nasty people. I even had a father from a different den send his 10 year old to tell me "he wasn't going to buy or sell any of my junk".
A SIMPLE NO THANK YOU!! is all it takes.

It amazes me that some people have no problem with getting rude with little kids. One guy last night told the girls he didn't have any money and then got into a brand new Lincoln town car (maybe that is why he doesn't have any money ). Then another guy was going to donate his last dollar to them.

I also have a hard time walking by the booth sales and telling the girls no. Luckily, most of the people who are selling in my area know I am a leader and don't ask.

I buy Boy Scout popcorn when it is popcorn time (my co-leader is a Boy Scout leader) and I buy Camp Fire candy. Plus all the other stuff my kids end up selling. Oh and I buy the candy from the churches that sell outside of the stores. It is no wonder I need to lose weight! Not really I usually give it to the kids or DH.
