A doctor who was very good friends with us had a daughter who lived in Jamacia. She was given a pair of dobermans as guard dogs. When she moved backed to the states she had grown to love the dogs and could not leave them behind. The doctor lived up on the hill behind the hospital in clear view of the ER. If these dogs were out for exercise they sometimes would come down toward the hospital.
Many times the darker skinned employees would have to run to get into the hospital. On one occassion a patient who was darker skinned was almost bitten. The workers or patients who had light skin could pet the dogs, but if you were darker they would almost attack.
Needless to say the doctor told his daughter that either the dogs go or she move where she could keep them. She moved, and still has the dogs. The last time I spoke with her they still acted the same way. I know they were either trained to do that or they had been abused by someone who had a dark complexion!

Dogs are not racist, but they CAN be trained to attack specific targets!
Dogs can also pick up on their owners feelings. If their owner has feelings of hate while in the presence of a person, their dog will pick up on that anger and hate, then act accordingly. If an animal has not seen people of other races, they tend to be wary and curious, but their owners are who they look to for guidance.
As far as you story goes, it's hard to tell why those dogs attack those certain people.
It most likley was their body language, not racism
