scifiwoman,
I'm sorry to hear about your trouble. I have been thru this w/my mother and Aggie before we were married.
They (mortgage co., bank) have to send you certified letters stating that your house if up for foreclosure.
If they haven't then you need to call them asap. They can't just do that to you. You have to be notified. If you're in foreclosure then people should of been calling you or coming to your door to ask about buying your home.
If you mailed the check to them for back mortgage payments and they accepted it they have to stop the foreclosure process.
Past/my mom's house was going on the auction block the very day we got the money. They accepted the money and immediatly took the house off the auction block. Of course money had to be in cashier's check.
I would call a foreclosure attorney. Aggie did in his case. We weren't married then but Aggie was getting a divorce.
While overseas his wife then didn't make mortgage payments. What eventually happened was the attorney found someone who bought Aggie's home and Aggie in returned paid rent to live there. It wasn't much either.
I would fight this til the very end. This isn't right. Call social services and look in the phonebook for an attorney. Call legal aid, local state bar association, call your local tv watch dog. They love stories like that and would be more than willing to help and have referrals for you.
The process of foreclosure does take a few months. If you start something now I'm sure you can get something done.
Good luck
