I think it's a bunch of baloney and we run into the problem all the time! I have a situation where I have one daughter who is a straight A student, and for the past several years, teachers have "grouped" her with kids that typically get failing grades. I personally question if this is simply to help the failing child get a better score. What it ends up doing is taking my daughter's grade down unless she basically does the whole project herself.
cab92 is right. Lazy teachers. Not all of them, but public school sure isn't what it used to be!

Sometimes shelhop, I think they group the "A" student with the struggling ones so that the better student can help the other ones. That also has happened with our younger son, but he likes to help so he doesn't mind that part. It's when the whole group is graded as a whole and he gets a lower grade that bugs him (and us).

This sooooo reminds me of my 8th grade science project!!!It was to be "Space the final frontier" It was lisa job and mine to do the research and write the paper heather said " I will make a model of the space shuttle and the poster board" So we get to the science fair (which is held at the college with 10 other schools from the area) lisa and I did our parts..heather showed up LATE!! No model of the space shuttle (her little brother broke it she claims) and a picture of a space shuttle on a piece of poster board with an astronaut hanging out of the porthole waving "hi" Lisa and I were soooooo embarrased! Other kids brought these huge models one kid brought a space suit.Everyone had these amazing projects and here was me and lisa standing there..Oh the best part heather LEFT! We had to stand there and get judge with this ridiculous looking poster board made with magic marker and crayons..........your wondering if we passed..ummm no we flunked thanks heather!!
