Lost my temper at judgemental pharmacist.
I went to a pharmacist tonight to buy syringes for my B12 shots. It just happens that I use the same size as drug addicts use to shoot up. A box of 100 syringes cost $27 but the individual syringes cost 35 cents each. I take the B12 every week, my husband gets it too. I also give shots once a month to a neighbor who brings her own B12 and allergy medicine. She is also a retired RN but doesn't like giving herself her shots. I don't mind providing the syringes. I usually buy the large box but tonight I went to a different pharmacy. They wanted to limit me to 10 syringes.
Who is he to tell me how many syringes I can buy at one time? Legally syringes can be bought without a prescription but he said it is up to the pharmacist how many he wants to sell and if anyone looks like an addict he won't sell them any. What makes him think he should judge me and how many syringes I should be able to buy? The thing that just really ticked me off was the way they treated me. To start with anyone who looked at me would have an idea I'm not a drug abuser. I weigh 300 lbs. Have any of you ever seen a 300 lb drug abuser? But the thing is, it's none of his business , in my mind. My son is a drug abuser. And yes I hate it, yes it breaks my heart but for goodness sakes, don't make it harder for him to get a clean needle. Don't try to force him to share with friends. Doesn't this idiot realize that a drug abuser is going to abuse with or without a clean needle? Where has he had his head stuck? I'm still so angry. I want to write to the president of the company.

You have very valid points! I agree....they will abuse with a clean or dirty needle!

so you were buying needles for drugs for your son?

She was buying needles to take B12 shots.

ok, just made it sound like she was buying them for both purposes or something, got me confused when she side-tracked about her son abusing drugs/needles.....

I buy syringes for insulin and B12 - I use the same size for both. I have actually had a pharmacist ask me to "prove" I was diabetic. I took off my medic alert bracelet and chucked it at him and told him to call them. Needless to say I got my syringes.
Now regarding drug addicts and needles - don't go there with me - they get FREE syringes and I have to PAY for mine so I have no sympathy for drug addicts.

Well I don't think its a pharmacists place to limit the syringes or question what they are for. If it was an addict buying them at least they are using clean ones and not getting aids

Was it a new pharmacy or pharmacist? Seems like he could look your record up and see you take insulin and b-12 shots. But he shouldn't have handled it the way he did. I wouldn't have liked that either.

I am certainly sad about the fact my son is a drug addict but I would buy needles for him if I thought he was using dirty ones. At this point in time I don't know if he is still using needles or not but the fact is I wouldn't want him using dirty needles. So as far as your question goes, yes I would if necessary. I can tell you, if you have children, and this should ever happen to you, and I would pray it never happens to another mother, if you had to choose between your son or daughter using dirty needles or you buying them, you will love your child enough to try to try to prevent him from getting a deadly disease on top of his already deadly habit/illness. Try not to judge others until you have walked in their shoes because you don't know what you would do. This thread was not about my son's or my problem but about a rude pharmacist.

I would def. make sure the head pharmacist knows about this situation or write the company.
I am a mother also and I understand your point about your son.

sorry, didn't mean to step on your toes...... I have 3 children..... and I did not drag your son into this conversation, um, you did, as you first mentioned the situation in your very first post. Yes, I took it a step further and pryed about it, sorry about that! If you didn't want someone to question about your son, from the comments you made, then don't mention the personal stuff you don't want to discuss.
again, please forgive me, I'm in a sh!tty mood right now and apologize
