Tell me you never watched thise movies growing up?
OMG this!! I watched so many crazy movies when I was a kid...lol. Anyone remember Audrey Rose?? I saw that at the drive ins..hahaha I remember babysitting and I was watching Halloween (the kids were in bed) and my brother came over and scared the crap out of me. Can't remember what movie we were watching but we were all down stairs watching a scary movie and one of my brothers came up to one of the windows with a huge knife and scared us all...lol. Ya, I think I spent many a nights sleeping on the floor of my parents bedroom because I was scared..hahaha, but I think I turned out to be pretty normal.

My kids watched the Disney movies, but when they got to be around 9 or so they were watching some movies that were probably not appropriate, but I have always had an open dialogue with them and have always communicated with them, taught them what is appropriate behavior around others. I don't really like the fact that my Ex lets my Son play San Andres on the PS, but I have had many talks with my Son on that subject, so I am not worried he will try carjacking anyone or beating on little old ladies. I think if your talking to your kids and are open with them, rather than always try to shelter them they learn and understand things and know where you stand, so they don't go out and do stupid things. The kids that are sometimes sheltered too much and have no open communication with their parents get into more trouble.

SO, am I an idiot or stupid? Maybe, but my kids seem to be pretty smart upstanding citizens, so I must have done something right.

Personally, I think parents who let their kids monitor their own television choices at a young age are idiots. My sister is one of them. She let her 5 yr old have a tv in his room and "trusted" him to only watch cartoon network. Umm...the kid would wake up late at night and watch adult swim. She finally figured it out, not in a great way either, and took the tv out. So, yeah, she was an idiot in that instance.

Also, I think what qualifies as crude humor can be just as bad.

THANK YOU. Parents that monitor their kids and talk to them about what they see are different than parents who just let the TV babysit their kids. Plus some kids have the run of the Internet. We all know what trouble they can get into from that, tragic cases tell us just what has happened to kids who watch whatever they want without supervision.

Any 5 year old watching TV in the middle of the night has a problem. Glad your sister caught on to what he was doing. OMG.

The great thing is we won't ever put a television in our children's rooms because it would cost us $5 per box to do it. Plu sI had tv in my room groing up and half the time I never left the bedroom so I never had good family interaction; I just remained holed up in my bedroom all day long.

Rings a bell! This was 30 yrs ago so tv wasn't quite as bad, at least not during prime time. I let my kids watch pretty much what they wanted to, most of the time. My sister criticized me for this. When her son came to visit we had to monitor the tv or turn it off. When he was about 7-8 they put a tv in his bedroom. She trusted him to only watch the right programs but discovered he was watching the Playboy channel. That was about the only non pay sex channel then.

lump me in with the stupid idiots....my now 9 yr old went with us to the movie theater to watch blade trinity, nope i've never sheltered her and she has always been taught the difference between movies and real life. walking out of the theater i overheard somebody behind us commenting on taking a kid to see the movie, right about the time my daughter was saying "THAT WAS COOL! can we see it again???" was she too young by the movie rating? yep WAY too young, did "I" know as a parent what my kid would tolerate? YEP sure did, if she had gotten scared we would have left. the ratings are SUGGESTIONS because too many parents cant be bothered to find out about a movie ahead of time, the same applies to video games. most of us can thank the over-jealous parent groups that try to DEMAND shows be taken off the air because "they" think they are innapropriate. are there movies i wont let her see? absolutely lots of them but ultimately it's my choice. as for the kid that had to be "prodded" to stop the power ranger stuff..sorry but it sounds like the parents has a discipline issue why did they continue to let the child continue with inappropriate behaviour because he "saw it on tv"??

Not as an attack but more of a question...why would you voluntarily take a young child to a rated R film? I'm just trying to understand the thought process. I mean, obviously you knew it was rated R and yet you made the concious decision, "Yup let's take her."

    That goes over my head.

As for the Power Rangers believe me we were scratching our heads there as well.

Had a nephew once that had a habit of biting. He bit my daughter's finger so bad that it almost broke the skin, you could see the teeth marks. I grabbed hold of his arm and bit him. He never bit anyone again.

My brother was talking the other day about one of our nephews that had the habit of shooting people with his bb gun thinking it was funny. My brother pumped up the bb gun, took aim and shot my nephew in the arse. He never shot anyone else with a bb gun, found out right fast that it was so much fun after all.

Too bad it doesn't work on Rapists. We do something along the same lines when or children get out of control. Show them that the recieveing end of things isn't that good after all.

simple....its just a movie, and one i knew she would like...we also go on scary rides at theme parks....i grew up a scardy cat...so much so i didnt go on my first roller coaster till i was 21. my mom was so over protective and sheltering she had me scared of my own shadow, there is no way she is growing up like that. to this day she mainly watches disney movies but she is really getting into special effects and wanting to know what goes into making movies like blade which i think is great

We let our son have a tv in his room when he was 12. We had cable tv so my husband locked all the channels we didn't want him to watch. This worked for about 2 years then my son found the password and unlocked the channels. He was 14 then and about watched almost everything we watched. He couldn't watch any of the nudity channels because we didn't subscribe to them but he did watch some violent movies and some nudity and bad language movies, but he's turned out to be a wonderul young man.

My son knows right from wrong and has decided to do the right. Movies don't change kids from doing right from wrong, I think parents don't have enough control over the kids that are getting into trouble. I get so tired of hearing about a kid that did this or that because he saw it on tv or played it on xbox.

The only show I've ever had trouble with my son watching is MythBusters on discovery channel. When he and a bunch of his friends would watch it they would get some really good ideas. One time I came home to find my dogs pool filled with corn starch and water. They watched the episode where they mixed water and corn starch in a big pool and they were able to "walk on water" What a mess! To say the least, they didn't walk on water in the pool that day, lol! There have been many episodes since then and many more experiments the guys have tried only to fail on most and succed on some.
Moms and dads with children ages 13 and up you better watch out if they start watching MythBusters, you might come home to a big mess, lol!
