Geessshhh- we are in Md. They tax us on the air we breath. Our taxes for our home is $4,000. Now the 3+ acres we own in WV is only $600. Go figure. We just pay them outright.

We get a property tax exemption since my husband is on disability. We have to file for it every year but as long as we do it on time we're exempt.

We are in Lincoln county. I've been to Pawnee a few times both while I was in school and with my kids for band contests.

It takes 5 years for a deliquent property to go up for sherriff's auction & the landlords then end up paying 1 year of these taxes & the peoperty is removed from sale. Same thingf happens the following year. IMHO, if you are 5 years behind you need to pay the ENTIRE 5 years not just one.

Then there is the added expense of section 8 (& I am not downing anyone living there) but many of these households have 5 or 6 children attending the local schools coupled with the deliquent property owners so NO ONE from that particular home is paying taxes. Gripes me because I don't have children attending school.

OKAY off of my soapbox. Goes off grumbling...our county taxes ar going up 30% & my city taxes are going up 20% yet I didn't get a pay raise.
What actually happens is at the time the taxes become past due they (the County) will sell a tax certificate for the property. So the County gets their money. When the land holder finally pays their taxes including penalties and interest the tax certificate holder is given that money. It is usually the cost of the taxes plus 11%. If the tax certificates are not cleared out in 5 years is when they will auction off the property and reimburse the certificate holders.

I bet my boss would trade any one of you your tax payment for the one on his beach condo. Considering it is NOT Oceanside it is on the inter-coastal and it is over
$ 15,000.00 per year 1200 sqr ft 2 bedroom 1 bath on the 5th floor.

Hey listen girl I would pay higher taxes not to be freezing cold...*LOL*

Last December when I went to city hall to pay the business taxes there was a guy who pulled out at least 10 property tax bills from that many different homes that were from previous years that he failed to pay. Tax office did refuse to take the payments from those years but told him he could pay this year's taxes but it would not stop the sheriff sale of the properties since he was deliquient for several years. He walked out w/o paying a penny.

Our taxes took a hell of a jump last year. I called for an explanation since no one else in towns did. ANd they said it was our addition. I was like WTF? It has been on since 2004! And our taxes took a hike in 2006 and 2007. So I'm not sure how many times they are going to hike us up for the addition?

Here is Iowa if people don't pay taxes they become deliquent. And after I think its 6 months del. we can go and pay their taxes and if come in and pay they have to pay what they owe PLUS pay me the del. charges etc. If they don't pay, I then get the property for whatever back taxes I paid. Here they don't mess around.

My property taxes are paid out of the escrow account. I do get a copy of my tax bill sent to me though and I just about fell out of my chair when I got it last week! I live in Crook (Cook) County with the highest sales tax in the nation as well at 10.25%. LOVELY! I'd move but no one in their right mind would buy my house!!!

UGH don't get me started.. We were paying taxes on 2 lots. We finally got them merged and this year our taxes are going to be significantly lower due to the homestead exemption.. With 2 lots we only qualified for 1 homestead exemption. It was torture getting them merged..
