Right, I'm not looking down and judging people who give away what they no longer want and what they wear.
Obviously that shirt didn't get thread bare from sitting in a drawer, they wore it to it's present condition.

We never had Salvation Army drop boxes around here, but we did have Goodwill boxes. They took them all down because people would bring trash and there furniture there and leave it. Once it rained on the furniture it wasn't any good then it cost the Goodwill to get rid of it as well as costing them to get rid of the trash.
They do have these big red boxes sitting around all over the place now for clothes and shoes though. Not sure who owns them but it says on the box they are for resale but would help in areas where disasters strike.

yeah, the big red boxes, this is what I was talking about....
And yes, it is for resale~I heard for goodwill, not sure though.
SO, what I have done, (since we are in a small community/town), is instead of dropping off clothes and shoes at the red boxes set up, I take them to the local ministry, which has a clothing closet for those in need in our community, they also take small appliances, furniture, bedding, you name it. They are also a food pantry, and give out bread and bread items to those in need. They rely soley on the community for clothing etc.... so that is where I take my things now.'
And if I have clothing that is stained, nasty, or worn down, it goes in the burning barrel.

The only time I get rid of clothes is if my kids can't wear them anymore. My rule is that if I wouldn't put it on my kids I throw it out.

Unfortuantely most of the stuff that goes into those boxes is from evictions or abandoned property and the owners of the property get a write off for throwing it there. It is disgusting.

Here, the red ones are for Easter Seal. My brother heads the whole Wisconsin division and often needs help when one of his drivers has called in. I have heard stories galore from him both good and bad. I think that the good way out weighs the bad though.

around here you can not drop things off and leave, they go through it and if it isn't good enough they will not take it.
