    stupid phlebotomist!

went to have my blood drawn today, told her right off the bat that I was a hard stick. Told her where to go to get it...yep, been thru this once or twice....anyway, she got a small needle out, jammed it in my hand and HIT THE BONE! OMG that burns! And now it's bruising. Couldn't ask for anyone else, because she was the only one there. Grrrrrrr!

I got a nerve pinched by a phlebotomist once. Ended up in the ER.

    Sorry that happened to you

I had many bad sticks while I was pregnant with my last DD. My doctor finally got so fed up with them he marched me down to the lab and yelled at them, all the while making them look at my bruised arm. I loved that man. *sigh* lol

This is ridiculous! No trained phlebotomist should hit bone or nerves! I'm a nursing student, so I've done blood draws and started IV's, and I know it would be pretty d*** difficult to accidentally hit bone or nerve! I would complain to their boss! It's unacceptable!

it's kind of sore right now, kind of bruised. As far as them sticking me more than three times...not a chance in hell. When I had my gallbladder out, had to get some preop stuff done...the woman that tried to draw me was brand new...she couldn't get the vein....left the needle in my arm while she went and got someone else! I had a huge bruise AND it swelled up too! I went off on that one! I know some people are hard to get but dang.

I would call and speak to her supervisor. My grandma who is terminally ill is a hard stick, I dropped her off to get blood work and when I came back she had 12 bandaids on. They jammed her 12 times and blew out a vein. I threw a major wig out and spoke to her supervisor and asked why the phlebotomist did not ask for her supervisor to draw blood since she was there. My grandma is such a sweet person she would not dream of complaining and so got mistreated. I would complain seriously and make sure she doesnt draw your blood again.

If I were going back there I would, but this was just a one time thing. I had to do a 24 hr. collection and they also had to draw blood. for some reason, the doctors office doesn't do that type of test.

And tomorrow is the big day for surgery........

I've had so much crap going in and out of my veins this past year it's hard to get anything. I had a big blood draw last week and the dippy lady said "If you have to have chemo they're going to have to put in a port because your veins are so bad". Nice. I didn't ask for her opinion, didn't want to hear that and then yesterday the doctor's office called because they didn't run one test and I have to go do it again.

I hate when that happens. I have great veins at the crook of my elbow if they need to draw blood. But they don't like to use those veins if they are putting in an IV as they are at the bend of the arm.

I had shoulder surgery last year and I explained to the surgical nurse that she would not be able to use the backs of my hands for an IV, but would instead have to move up to my forearm. She insisted that she would be able to do it, and then tried to put a needle in the back of my left hand. (They didn't want to use my right hand since the surgery was going to be on that side.)

Anyway...she couldn't get a needle in (what a surprise) so another nurse tried and was successful in getting in a very tiny needle. When the anesthesiologist came, she said that the needle was too small and wouldn't work. However, she understood that I was already stressed so she said that she would put the IV line in after I was out (from the gas). After all...she was an expert in these things.

I woke up from the surgery with the backs of BOTH hands very bruised...and the IV line in my forearm!

    But...at 58 years old...I couldn't possible know my body.

Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.
