    Does this happen to you?

You see a cute newborn in the store or wherever and comment to momma how cute said baby is. Then, for no reason and after no prompting..momma tells you every single detail of the birth?? I don't know why but I know the most intimate details of almost every new mother in MA.
I like hearing birth stories, from my friends or from people on boards who I have known for a while and knew they were expecting. I do NOT need to know how many stitches some woman has in her cooch or how she **** all over the doctor while giving birth while I am trying to order some lunchmeat at Shaws and innocently remark "Aww a newborn, congrats"

    WTF?

I in general do not comment on someone else's child for several reasons and that is one of them....but I do know what you mean, my niece has an 8 month old and she commented on someones baby who in turn commented on hers and my niece started going into details and afterwards I told her no one wants to hear that so now she doesnt do it, at least not around me lol

While I can be sort of guilty of this........not about the nasty details.....but I've offered up weight and length without being asked esp...if someone comments on her size. I am just so proud and love my girls....doesn't everyone else? LOL

Hell I don't even want toknow how many stitches I had! LOL

I try to read the person with whom I am talking....sometimes a comment has turned into a long conversation (usually when its between two SAHM's who are both craving some adult conversation!)

Lucky for me, I have not run into that with strangers. People I know have gone into detail, and I don't really want to hear the "whole story". So, I can just imagine how I would feel if a stranger began a diatribe about birthing her baby.
We had us, we had him, now we have everything.

Not so much with babies, but when I assist or hold a door open for seniors or others with a limp, crutches, whatever, I have to hear all sorts of surgery details, each ache and pain, bursitis, arthritis, trick knees, you name it. And I, like a fool, listen.

I don't have that happen when I comment on babies, but I called a friend's house and her mom was there visiting and answered the phone... she proceeded to tell me that no, her daughter wasn't there, she ran up to the store to get her some medication because she's been having the worst diarrhea since she got there and it looks kind of mucus-y and bloody so she thinks she's going to see her doctor the next day, and that to make matters worse, her hemorrhoids are bothering her. YUCK!

I have never gotten any of the details (thank goodness) but when I see a new baby (especially in a checkout line) and I always make a nice comment, then if I see if the mother is nice, I just have to ask if I can pat the babies head. There is just nothing in this world that I love more (well maybe puppy breath) than feeling a babies head. It is just so warm and soft, makes me melt down to my toes.

I think I had it happen maybe once.

I know when I had the twins, every time me and DH went anywhere with them, we would have a swarm of people around us knowing every single detail. DH is antisocial and shy is it is , so he got to the point he would take one of the babies, and go off doing our shopping , leaving me to answer all the questions. What I always hated was the stupid questions. We had boy/girl twins, one dressed in pink with a hair bow,one dressed in blue with dinosaurs. DUH.. so I always got asked.. are they boys or girls? which one is the boy? DUHHHHHHHHHHH
