Should a DUI be a felony?

I sure think so!! But then I guess it will never be since most of our politicians wouldn't be running for office since they wouldn't be able to campaign in prison. Maybe then they would see what it is like.

I absolutely think it should be a felony. There is a potential of someone dying anytime someone who has had too much to drink gets behind the wheel of a powerful machine.

Yes it should be. They said on the news last night that almost 20,000 people got killed by drunk drivers last year and most of them were killed by someone in the 20 to 29 age group driving drunk.

    [B]ABSOLUTELY IT SHOULD BE A FELONY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![B]

The pain and suffering that my husband has endured for the last 27 years is all the result of a drunk driver, who just happened to be the sheriffs daughter!!

After 2 and 1/2 years straight time in the hospital, 2 of those years in a coma, a total of 54 surgeries through the years, including both legs being amuputated below the knees and then both taken above the knees, spinal nerve damage, a multiple seizure disorder, which has lead into Alzhiemers, feeding tubes, a trach, and various other things, all because a woman wanted to have fun and drink and then drive.

    Make it a felony!!!!!!!!!

    felony

I believe it should be a felony but only for repeat offenders or if there is personal injury or death from the first time. I was arrested when I was 20 for drunk driving. I learned my lesson and never drank and drove again. I knew when I was busted, that I had been lucky to have been stopped. I was surprised that I had even attempted it since I knew when I got behind the wheel that I couldn't drive and I never before than drank to such excess. God blessed me that day.

Not a first time offender. Repeat offender's are different.
They say it takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, a day to love them, but then an entire life to forget them. Distance and time may separate us but friendship and memories won't.

I'm veyr torn on this. A first time offender can cause as serious an accident as a ten tiem offender. I think that a first time offender should lose their license for a year. That is what happened to our neighbor in Germany. let me tell you, being unable to drive for a year, having to depend on his wife to get to work, etc. made a huge impression on the man. If he'd been convicted again, he would permanently lose his license.

I think repeat offenders should definitely have a felony charge, but I think the practical consequences of even a first time offender should be much harder than they are.
