Best time of day to go vote? (smallest line)

Any election officials around? I now have the luxury to go to vote at any time (I get the day off without pay, but still it is one of my few rare weekdays off as I get no paid vacation at all), so I am wondering if there is a good time to go when it tends to be less crowded.

As I have most always been working in the past, I do not want to go when most working people have to go - early morning or after 5pm. Last year I went about 9:30am (first time I had it off) and still waited in line for over 2.5 hours. The previous presidential election I went right from work, got there at about 5:30 pm and got out after 9:30pm, as the line was so long, and I was starving as I had missed lunch too and then dinner that day. now I know to take a book, food and drink with me.

They really have to improve the voting process here. In my city, you cannot absentee vote unless you certify you will be out of state or disabled. They need to open up the restrictions and increase voting time, maybe 2 days or more.

I totally understand why only 40% of eligible voters in the US go to vote.

The best time to go vote on election day is when the polls open. If you want to miss the "dash" to the polls on election day, every state has early voting. Maybe next year you may want to try that. This year was the first time that I have early voted and the crowds aren't so bad until usually later in the day. Most people vote after work instead of before.

I always go very early too and have never had to wait in line. Of course I live in a small town so that may be the difference. Good luck. I hope that you don't have to wait in line long.

WOW, the polls open at 6 am here. I always try to be there around 10 till and am usually 3-4 people back in line, so I get out pretty quickly. That way my whole day is free and I dont have to worry about getting to the polls before they close.

Polls open here at 6 am. I voted already. Went at 6:30, seems they never can start on time.

Congrats to the voters of TN. 40% of the voters did early voting. That is a high turnout.

We had around 142,000 early voters here in Shelby Co. alone. My brother is running for 2 offices, State Rep and US Congress. He is out today making the rounds to be sure that everyone is playing by the rules. We have a bad problem with "cheating" here in Memphis. We are running an election day rundown on one of his blogs today and already on his first stop he found campaign workers set up within the 100ft boundary, all nice in comfy in their chairs. I called the election commission and they said the problem needed to be taken up with the poll watcher. Problem there is that since my brother is a candidate he cannot enter the polling station to notify them without violating the rule himself.

I normally go on my way to work. I voted this am at 8:15 and there weren't many people there. Its raining here so that will keep alot of people from voting today. It always amazes me that people don't do anything because of rain...ever hear of an umbrella??? Geeezzz...its your American born right to vote so go do it...HAPPY VOTING EVERYONE!!!

Re: Best time of day to go vote? (smallest line)

I went around 9:30 this morning and the poll workers said it had been very steady. Surprising since we are having very heavy rain. Only had two people in front of me but there were people at all the voting stations. Guess people are turning out in South Carolina because we have the same sex marriage admendment on the ballot and are voting for govenor. Causes me to call foul because here (Myrtle Beach) over half the voting stations are in churches including where I vote and there was a voter talking to a poll worker about the admendment plus the churches all have signs up saying vote YES. Not that I expect the admendment to pass since we are in the Bible Belt but it does go against the election rules. Shouldn't surprise me since during the 2004 election they had a huge picture of George W. Bush hanging up beside the voting machines and only took it down after people complained and called the election board.

Edited to add: The same sex marriage admendment also is worded to deny equal benefits to any couple in a partnership. Will have to watch it and see if it is enforced (if it passes and I'm sure it will by a huge margin) to male/female partnerships the same as same sex partnerships. Let the lawsuits begin.
