Re: Best time of day to go vote? (smallest line)
I went today at about 8:15 am, figuring most people are on the way to work by then. I didn't wait in line, although I took the last empty booth. We have a huge ballot here this year, so I thought the lines would be long since it will take longer to actually vote. The precinct workers were saying they have had a bigger than normal turnout so far. Our polls are open from 6am to 7pm here. The worst time to go here is from 5pm on.
I am so glad election day is here so the recorded political phone calls will stop!!

Re: Best time of day to go vote? (smallest line)
Went at 8am - only there over an hour. How unorganized. Like being back in the dark ages. We were given a long, long paper ballot in a privacy folder. They only had 6 folders, and only 6 spaces set up at tables with cardboard privacy booths. The community center it was in had very poor (dim) lighting making it very hard to see the small light grey circles we had to fill in with an ink pen manually. We had to wait in line to sign in, wait again for a folder, wait in line for a booth, and then wait in line to feed the ballot into a reader, which kept jamming. The election workers were so busy chatting. People had no idea where to go next as it was set up so poorly and no one was watching. I was constantly saying " hey, next up, there is an empty booth you can go to. " or "Hey, who can help this lady - where does she go next" The young boy managing the reader machine, almost had a fit when mine jammed, because the top of my ballot was slightly visible to him when I pulled it back out of the machine. He covered his eyes, and whilrled around, saying "pull it down, pull it down, so I cannot see it!". It took me a while to figure out what the heck he was talking about. One poor older man, had to go back and redo his ballot as the machine could not read it.

Re: Best time of day to go vote? (smallest line)
My son and I went in at 6:30 am to vote. I always take him with me and we decide together who we should vote for. It was so funny this morning. We stood there looking at the computer screen and Nash said out-loud, "Mom, we don't want to vote for her...she voted twice to cut teacher's pay!" (He had heard about the woman on a radio spot that her opponent ran.) Everyone around us starting laughing. It was so funny.

Re: Best time of day to go vote? (smallest line)
I went at 7:30 am and there was no line. We had a long ballot here too. Both sides of 2 pages. I hope everyone exercises their right to vote today. If they don't then I don't want to hear them complaining about who got in and what taxes passed or didn't.
Good luck to your brother tngirl. Let us know the outcome.

I voted by absentee ballot since we had such a long ballot.

Re: Best time of day to go vote? (smallest line)
I went at 5:30 pm as I had class today. Quite a long ballot in Michigan today. I love voting! The big proposal (Proposal 2) centered around eliminating affirmative action, so that got a big no from me. It was rather busy at my polling place as there are three precincts. I was out in five minutes, despite the line up.

Causes me to call foul because here (Myrtle Beach) over half the voting stations are in churches including where I vote and there was a voter talking to a poll worker about the admendment plus the churches all have signs up saying vote YES. Not that I expect the admendment to pass since we are in the Bible Belt but it does go against the election rules. Shouldn't surprise me since during the 2004 election they had a huge picture of George W. Bush hanging up beside the voting machines and only took it down after people complained and called the election board.
Edited to add: The same sex marriage admendment also is worded to deny equal benefits to any couple in a partnership. Will have to watch it and see if it is enforced (if it passes and I'm sure it will by a huge margin) to male/female partnerships the same as same sex partnerships. Let the lawsuits begin.
Michigan passed a similar same sex marriage amendment in 2004. Unfortunately, the Christians/rightwingers got it passed. I, of course, voted no as I have no reason to deny any faction of the population equal rights.

Re: Best time of day to go vote? (smallest line)
Well, the polls here are closed now. We went this morning around 7AM and voted.
I hope everyone on this forum exercised their right to vote. A lot of good men and women died to give us this gift.
I also hope that people voted for the person they thought would do the best job of representing them and not just for the party.
