Ok, I know this is petty....

I really know this is so petty, but for some reason it just IRKS me to no end! Professional people who make professional expensive signs and spell the word wrong or use the wrong word all together! I am definitely no super smart person or think I am better in any way, shape or form....but when you open your local paper and read in giant letters "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL ARE READERS" How about all OUR readers?? I could have understood "all who are readers" but nope....
Or when you see a sign "Sub's $4.00" There is NO apostrophe on something pluralized! And anyone can make a mistake, but these are on professional billboards or signs at businesses! It just really bothers me, and I know that there is much more in today's world that is important and meaningful. But this is the vent/whine board so that is what I am doing

You should read our local newspaper

One of my most favorite things is finding all the mistakes. It is a head shaker. What I really like better is getting started reading an article and there is no end to it. I am not perfect but I have to agree with you all, when people are paying someone to do a job, whether it be a sign or a newspaper, use a dictionary or something. I don't think that they realize there are some people out here that might not have a 200 IQ but are at least smart enough to notice their stupid mistakes.

You'd be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't) about how many of these ads are actually written by the newspaper staff!!! Of course most companies would request a copy before it was put in print to proofread it, but not all do. Even if you send in a classified ad, it's up to the staff to type it in correctly. I do agree though that it's highly annoying!

Perhaps if more people took out their OED and double checked their spelling we would have less mistakes. I feel if you are going to do a job then do it right. Read what you have written or have someone else look it over.

ITA! I mean, whoever wrote it in the paper about Happy Mother's day to all ARE mothers, that is one person, but who proof-reads and types it up?? It had to go through at least 2 people. OY!
There are so many of them around lately and it just bothers me so much!
At least I'm not alone

It is just as bad when you read books. I cannot tell you how many times I am reading a novel only to find spelling errors, as well as names that change from one sentence to the next.
