What would you do?
I live in a very nice, quiet neighborhood. Everyone keeps everything up real nice ect. We had neighbors move in kitty corner-across the road from us a few months ago. Its a couple with 4 kids. Every kid has a car. Well 2 of the kids always park their car #1 right in front of my house, and #2 in between my house, and the neighbors to the right of us. That wouldn't be to much of a problem, except both cars leak oil like crazy. I'm talking a cup or more oil a day, for each car. They won't park in front of their own house(wonder why ), just in front of ours(and the neighbors next door)though they have to walk a extra 20 feet, then cross the road to get to their house. My road is a block, and 1/2 long to, with plenty of other places to park(though it would be in front of other peoples houses. We asked them politely to do something about the oil(can't really tell them not to park there, it's a public street), to no avail. I think it is incredibly rude, and not sure what to do. I have kids, and the neighbors have small kids, and I don't want anyone getting into oil, and getting sick or hurt. I wish the road in front of my house was as pretty, and clean as theirs is Help!

Re: What would you do?
like you said, since its a public street, you cant ask them not to park there. i dont know if reporting them to the police would help or not.....not sure if they can do anything about it. you can always ask the police......worse they can say is no.
i wonder tho......when it rains, does the oil run into a near by drainage ditch or water drain? if it does, perhaps something can be done then. i know your not allowed to pour oil down those....if the car leaks as much as you say......this sounds like it would be just as bad

Re: What would you do?
I never really paid attention to where the drains are, hmmm. I'll have to look. It has only rain here 5 times in the past 4 months, and not very hard, so the oil doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Re: What would you do?
Park your car/s in a way so they can't get to the spots they park at on a regular basis... seems to me that is your only recourse for the public street... not quite sure about the spot between the houses... is that a road too?
Ya have to wonder how a car that leaks that bad manages to pass emissions... inspectors would park it and they'd be hoofin it around here.

Re: What would you do?
I was going to ask the same thing about the spot between the two houses. Is that on a public street? I would call the police and ask their advise. They hate to called into the middle of an arguement between neighbors and probably have had training on these kind of things. Good luck

Re: What would you do?
Yes the spot between the houses is road too(its like one long road). I'm trying to convince dh to park the car out there, but he hates to leave them outside(but he maybe changing his mind) I too, wonder how they can pass inspection, or even move their cars, with the amount lost I may have to go check, and see if they are even up to date.

Re: What would you do?
Ordinances must be different around here. We have no driveway and can barely park our car and van in front of our house. When we moved in, we parked the rental truck in front of the house and had to park our car in front of the neighbor's house. She called the police because she was getting company and they would have no place to park. We were given one hour to move our car. Guess laws are different in different towns.

Re: What would you do?
Call your village hall immediately. The village is responsible for maintaing the streets and sewers, etc., and they can make them repair their vehicles or pay for damages to the street. The oil will runoff after a rain and drain into the system which is another No no. Call everyday they park their and report it so they can have a record that they did the damage.
I once had a neighbor who changed his oil then dumped it along the fence line on my side. I called the police and he said he did it because we didnt cut our grass. The cop mentioned that my grass and his looked the same. He then told the cop not to do it again. I said told the officer that was not enough. Since the oil is considered hazardous I wanted him to clean it up and replace the dirt that would be lost to clean up. The cop tried to get out of making him do it since he worked for the village and then I reminded him that they, by law could not bypass county or state laws. I got my clean up.

Re: What would you do?
First off it may be a public road but the spot in front of my house is mine period. I have new neighbors that are renting and they parked in front of my house instead of theirs. I went over and told them they needed to move their car. I told them we have family that comes by regularly and we needed our spot left open for them. Well they moved it.Haven't had anymore problems. I had already decided if they weren't going to cooperate I was going to wait till they were gone and break a glass bottle out in front of my house. I knew they wouldn't park there if there was broken glass and they sure wouldn't clean it up. At least I didn't have to go that way.

I seriously doubt that. You can't stop anyone from parking on a city or county owned road. That's how things get ugly with neighbors, when people get petty and have a sense of entitlement.

I'm not petty and you can think what you want. I'm a woman married to a hard@ss biker. Noone parks in front of our house period!!!!! Believe me we get along fine with all of our neighbors. Hubby is the security for the block. If someone is scared to go in their house because its dark and they heard something well hubby is there. He isn't afraid of noone or anything. Most of the block is elderly widowed women and they always call us if they have a problem. We had some punks that sold drugs move in down on the corner. Well they only lasted a month and hubby had run them off. There was an elderly man who could only get around with a walker on one side of this house and a huge woman on the other side. They never came outside after the punks moved in cause they were picked on. Well once the punks were gone the neighbors weren't afraid to come outside anymore. They even thanked my hubby for his help. Everyone around here knows he has certain rules. No parking in front of our house is one of them.
