checking account overdrawn - i haven't used it in over a week!

my checking account is $32 and some change in the hole. i don't want to post how much, but i just made a HUGE deposit a little over a week ago when i got my pay checks. and now i'm negative? there should have been over $100 left in that account after i paid bills and got caught up on everything. i haven't used my debit card since last wednesday, and i am super careful with my money so i know i haven't overdrawn myself. (i don't write checks : i have yet to use a check after 3 months of having this account, i don't know why i even ordered them.

) i have the card, it's hidden where i always hide it, so no one has taken it. i tried to buy a frozen pizza tonight and my card wouldn't go through as credit or debit. i don't carry cash anymore, so i had to leave without the pizza. i went to my bank, to the drive through atm, and checked my balance. negative. i am so mad right now. as soon as i get caught up, this happens. now i get to figure out what happened and who took my money.

so far they have been cool though. the lady who handles my account is awesome, she is so nice. i just hope we can figure this out and it's not going to be one of those phantom charger things.

Can you check the status online? Most banks have online banking, or call the 800#? I can check the status of mine through online or the 800# 24/7

have you signed up with any online offers, like 1 month for a dollar to get a gift card or something like that ?

I did that one time & I forgot about it & then it hit my bank card .

I hate banks for this reason. We just got outta hole like that cause a store charged us double for a high dollar purchase, because of not using checks, only my ATM, We were charged well over $600 in bank charges. THat is not including the charges we thought we were spending our monry on.

It put us back far. It was awful. I honestly thought I would die. We went to a different bank after this crap happened. I will never deal with the bank that did this again. They are awful. I called them and explained it to them, they said oh well it isn't our fault, call the store, called the store it wasn't there fault either so I ended up happening charge after charge. Heck the bank even was charging me fees for their fees over drawing the account. That was the 2 weeks from heck, I truely truely sympathize with you.

if you cashed any checks like Pinecone etc..the bank holds that amount against your account until the checks clears..you should be able to check your account online or over the phone to see what happened. Also if you got checks thru your bank when you opened the account, they charge you for those too

I paid a bill a couple months ago. Paid it 2x, wrote it down once in the checkbook, we were over by like $1.change. Got a $25 charge against us, I was so mad!

Ditto...I check mine daily. Yes, obsessive but I don't want any problems. Hope everything gets worked out for you.

My bank will print out a statement if I ask, instead of waiting for the regular monthly one to come. Try asking them to do this, it should show exactly where your money went.

I hope you get it figured out. Once I deposited money with a teller and when I got to work I looked online at my acct and it wasn't posted, which mine gets posted ASAP. I looked at my deposit slip, the teller put it in the wrong acct! I called them up and spoke w/ her and she got it taken care of right away, but mistakes do happen. If you don't have online banking and it's free, I highly recomend signing up for it.

Yep, our last bank done that a few times for us too. I haven't had to ask our new bank yet but I'm pretty sure they would do the same.

I hope you get it all figured out. We went in the hole one time because DirecTV took money out of our account by using my debit card number. We didn't owe them the money and I still don't know how they got my debit card number because the only thing we used our card for was the ATM. I was so mad.

thanks to everyone who wished me well, it's nice to see some people sympathize.

i am so relieved. my bank has been great, again. they refunded all the money that was withdrawn and reversed the fees. ebay made the withdrawals.

i don't have my checking account on ebay. i had an account with ebay a year or so ago and put my (old) checking account on there, and they tried taking money several times that i didn't even own them, and i didn't have enough money in the account at that time. ended up costing me a buttload. i now use my sister's ebay account (they closed my other account because i refused to pay their fees when they were the ones who messed up), and i know better than to put my account on that site. i know my sister didn't do it, so i am clueless. they are changing my pin, debit card #, account #, and replacing my checks free since i need new ones with the new number.

i can't believe that part - they offered it, i never even thought of it as an option. i highly doubt that someone just got the numbers mixed up, but i guess it's possible. i don't have my checking info anywhere on the internet, except with paypal, so i don't know how anyone could have taken it off here. hopefully this will not happen again.
