So sad, 11 ounce baby dies after 3 days, have you been following this is the news?
[QUOTE]OKLAHOMA CITY - A baby girl who weighed 11 ounces at birth has died, a little more than three days after being delivered three months premature.

Kalea Lyn Allen Richardson, who died late Friday, had been kept under a humidification tent in the neonatal intensive care unit at Mercy Health Center.
“She was my angel, and she was a fighter,” said her mother, Deidra Allen. “We fought hard for her, and she made it until she couldn’t make it anymore.”
Kalea was delivered by Caesarean section Tuesday after an ultrasound raised concerns that she might die in the womb, doctors said.
Her legs were no longer than an adult’s pinkie and her feet were about the size of an adult’s fingernail. A breathing tube smaller than a piece of spaghetti pumped air into her lungs.
The baby who is believed to be the smallest ever to survive was born in September near Chicago. Rumaisa Rahman, who weighed 8.6 ounces at birth, was released from the hospital in February. Her twin sister, who weighed 1 pound, 4 ounces, also survived

The problem with preemies is that their lungs aren't developed enough for them to breathe. And most of their other organs are still in development. So the chances of survival are limited. Then you have to consider the millions of dollars it takes to take a preemie from this stage to 2 lbs so that they can live outside of the hospital without additional equipment to keep them alive.
Preemies who survive are lucky. We have the ability to keep them alive now and 30 years ago they would have died, being far to small to survive.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

This is so true. My first son was born at 7 months gestation and weighed 3 lbs 12 oz. He only lived two days. He would be 34 years old now.
If he had been born today, his chances of survival would be extremely high.
Never argue with an idiot. It will bring you down to his level and he’ll win because of experience.

My sister had a extreme preemie(27 weeks 4 days) April Fools day 2004(I told her he is gonna ge TROUBLE). He was 2lbs 10 ozs, had one heck of a battle and has done very well now. He's my "Chunky Monkey"! He's over 19 lbs now!!!! Still not sitting up or crawling on all fours but is healthy and chubby
So much more is possible theses days my little brother was born at 30 weeks 23 years ago and had a severe lack of oxygen. He had so many problems, he was mentally retarded and had muscular distrophy. A trache and all. He died at 7 of an aneurism. Can't wait to see him and my little sis(she died at six weeks, 24 years ago -it was labled as SIDS) again one day.

My mother lost Diane 8 months before Danny was born. She already had 3 of us then so the family decided my aunt would raise him. She is a wonderful woman she took him in as her own pretty much we visited and my parents did provide his medical and stuff but I still think of him as more "hers" than "ours". Mom still feels bad and won't even visit the graves. She has never been there but for the burials, I don't think she knows how to deal with it. I do go sometimes, it makes me feel closer to them. I always wonder what they would have been like as the were so young we never were able to hangout or talk. I know it weird but I can't wait to "meet" them one day!

How sad.
My MIL was born 3 months premature almost 56 years ago and weighed 2 lbs 5 oz. She is healthy as can be. It is amazing that she survived considering how long ago it was. Luckily she was born at one of the best hospitals in Ohio.

That's funny that you call you're nephew chunky monkey that's what I call my son even though at 5 months he only weighs 14lb 10 oz 25" long! He weighed 5lb 7oz at birth and was 18 1/2" long he was 19 days early but was very healthy his apgar at 1 min after birth was 9.9 and the same at 5 min after birth, he lifted his head off of my chest within minutes of birth . I thank god every day that he is here and so healthy with his fat little thighs that I can't even wrap my hand around and his dimpled little butt cheeks, he is so swwweeeet.
This story is sooooooooo sad, but at least she got to see the baby, I'm not sure which would be worse to have never got to see the baby or to see her and lose her. Either way I feel bad for the family, but I know they say everything happens for a reason but dang it in cases like this I just knew what it was.
