How to Clean a Computer Keyboard
A grimy appearance is just one reason to clean your computer keyboard. If dust gets stuck underneath the keys, they might not work properly. And spilled liquids can be your keyboard's death knell if not taken care of.
Steps:
1. Purchase any supplies you need: compressed air (in an aerosol can); a soft rag; Endust for Electronics, or any nonabrasive household cleaning fluid suitable for cleaning plastic; and a dust mask if you're allergic to dust.
2. Check your owner's manual. If the manufacturer has provided specific instructions, follow them.
3. Shut down the computer.
4. Disconnect the keyboard. (Image 1)
5. Use compressed air to clean between the keys. Spray at an angle to dislodge dust and grime. (Image 2)
6. Shake loose dust gently out of the keyboard. (Image 3)
7. If using Endust for Electronics or another aerosol cleaning fluid, follow the manufacturer's instructions. Otherwise, spray a small amount of fluid onto a rag.
8. Wipe the keys and chassis. (Image 4)
9. Wait until the keyboard is dry before reconnecting it to the computer.
10. Reconnect the keyboard and restart the computer.
Tips:
In industrial or other high-dust environments, use a plastic keyboard cover to protect the keyboard.
If you've spilled a large amount of liquid, or if the liquid is sticky, it's likely that the keyboard won't be repairable, although you can certainly try. To be safest, though, keep drinks far away from your computer.
Warnings:
If you've spilled liquid on the keyboard, turn it upside down after you disconnect it to let the liquid drain out. If there's a lot of liquid, or if the liquid is sticky, wash out the spill with running water. (Do not immerse the keyboard.) Let the keyboard drain for 72 hours.
Do not spray fluids directly onto the keyboard.
Tips from eHow Users:
Use the dishwasher by Anon G.
Professional computer people actually use a dishwasher to clean a keyboard. It does no damage to the keyboard, provided it is ABSOLOUTELY dry before use (Take off the screws on the back and dry in the sun.)
How to clean your keyboard by Robert J H.
Put it upside down on the top rack of your dishwasher. Use the short cycle, but don't use soap. Do not re-connect until completely air dried.

Re: My keyboard got wet. what can I do?
If you turn off the system and unplug the keyboard you can run it under running water. You also can take it apart and clean it thoroughly with soap and water, or you can pop it in your dishwasher.

Re: My keyboard got wet. what can I do?
I've cleaned soda out of keyboards by prying off the keys (it may help to take a pic of the keyboard first so you'll know where to put the keys back), then cleaning with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.

Re: My keyboard got wet. what can I do?
My hubby puts them in the dishwasher at work. Put on top shelf, DO NOT USE SOAP, run through wash cycle but not the dry cycle. Put in dry place and let completely dry sometimes up to three days.
Keyboards can be cheap to buy but when you are in an office with so many computers it's adds up.
Hope this helps. Not sure what can be done with a laptop keyboard.

Re: My keyboard got wet. what can I do?
DO NOT run your keyboard under running water if it is wireless or if it is internet ready... Just unscrew the back and wipe it down w/ a damp paper towel... the new keyboards w/ the fancy gadgets should not be run under water or through the dishwasher.
