lucky me!
i have got to be the luckiest person on the face of the earth. it was about 1:30 AM and i stepped out onto the porch to call the cat. i heard this screeching sound and see a car barrel around the corner, clip my husband's car on the front end, and slam into the back of mine. i ran inside, grabbed the phone and started chasing the car as i dialed 911 and told them what happened and a full description of the car. i tried to get a license plate number but the car hadn't taken time to turn around. they were driving down the street, and turned the corner to the street next to mine, BACKWARDS
the cops came within 5 minutes, asked me a bunch of questions, took reports and photos, then about 15 minutes after they arrived they told me that they found the guys and wanted me to go ID the car. turns out both people in the car were drunk, and their car was way more messed up, my bumper got torn off, but i taped it back up with duct tape their whole front end on the right side was smashed up, my husbands was dented and scratched but will probably end up costing more to repair than mine. i have uninsured motorist in case those people arn't insured, but i'm pretty sure it was a couple of youngsters riding around in daddy's car.
man i feel so blessed. if i hadn't been out there and been able to act so quickly those guys might have gotten away with it. all because i went outside to call the cat, i love my cat.

Re: lucky me!
thanks. you know, if they had stayed, we probably could have just exchanged insurace info, then they could have gone home and not gotten busted. stupid drunk people. i just thought of something too, they could have drived forward instead of driving 4 blocks in reverse duh!

Re: lucky me!
What I think is even more important is that you may have saved someone from getting seriously hurt or killed. If you had not seen them and called the police they would have kept going...the next thing they hit could have been a person. You had great timing and you will never know what your call helped avoid. Thanks.

Re: lucky me!
Get yourself a lawyer so that someone can go after them for the cost of the repairs if your insurance company won't. If they were in Daddy's car, go after Daddy. And I hope that they went to jail as well. Someone should have to pay for the damages. You might even go to their bail hearing or trial and ask for restitution. This sort of thing makes me crazy. Somewhere along the line they should have to pay for the damage they have done to your cars. And not just walk away and let your insurance pay for it.
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

Re: lucky me!
yeah they never should have been on the road, who knows what would have happened if i hadn't reported them. well i have uninsured motorist just in case but i'm pretty sure they are insured, by the looks of the fancy car anyway. i can definately file a civil claim if i wanted to. they were arrested, for DUI and for leaving the scene of the crime. i called today so i can get a copy of the incident report which should have their insurance info or lack of. my insurance co. is also looking into it.
i drove the car this morning. my exhaust system is trashed, bumper going to fall off, and the shocks are gone. it's also leaking what appears to be oil but could be something else. there was substancial damage to my car. and even though damage to my husbands car look minor it's going to cost a lot to replace parts.

Re: lucky me!
I agree with the above poster about saving a life. I only wish moree people would report people who are driving drunk, whatever the reason they are calling i.e. accident or just to report them, I do not agree with driving under any kind of influence. You were very lucky, not only to be calling your cat at that time, but also to be on the porch, I am glad you are alright, I am sorry about your cars, but it is better you were not in the car or anywhere near it.
Hope everything works out for you in the insurance dept. too.
Sometimes it is hard to let go of a memory, especially if you remind yourself of it everyday.

Re: lucky me!
thanks. yeah even if they hadn't hit my car i still would have called the police. my tabs are about to expire and there is no way i will be able to get them renewed as my car won't be able to pass a safety inspection. i should be able to get their insurance go to get me a rental. i have to have a vehicle.

i should be able to get their insurance go to get me a rental. i have to have a vehicle. Don't back down on this. Keep after the insurance company even if you have to call several days and even several times in each day! Similar thing happened to my daughter and we had to make sooo many phone calls but she got the rental for the month her car was in the shop. Just glad to hear no one was hurt. Give the kitty an extra treat too

Re: lucky me!
well the guy who hit our car doesn't have insurance. i've been informed by my insurance company that although i do have uninsured motorist it's only for bodily damage. that's not what i thought i was signing up for. i'm really po'd. now i have to take the guy to court, i will win of course, but that doesn't mean he will pay anytime soon. in the meantime i get to pay out of pocket to have the cars repaired

Re: lucky me!
That stinks, Mistress B..
My mom was hit during a police chase. I believe it was a stolen car driven by an uninsured driver that hit her. She went through a lot and hardly got enough money to cover damages (the car was totaled).
The law covers the criminals these days. Sorry you have to go to court. Don't count on him having any $$ to pay you.
