Angry WHAT NO Halloween Costumes @ son's school!

How stupid is this......My son's school don't let the kids dress up for Halloween cuz it is Nevada State Day on the 29th so they celebrate that and not Halloween and if the kids want to dress up they can has Cowboys and Indians!!

I think this is just stupid!!! I felt like asking her can the kids come as stripers and slot machines too? That is what Nevada is all about.........

I don't remember my kids ever being allowed to wear halloween costumes to school, neither was I.
DD got to dess up as a favorite nursery rhyme character in first grade, but it wasn't near halloween.

I personally think the ideas of "cowboys and Indians" offensive, considering how the land was ripped off from the Native Americans.

My son is in first grade. He was not allowed to wear his costume last year or this. The only time he has was in preschool/playgroup.

I guess it is too much of a distraction in school. (if they cannot dress or undress themselves or rip something or trip).

I used to get dressed up in high school!!

See I grew up being able to wear my costume every year till I graduated. My son got to wear his costume K, 1 and 2nd Grades. Each year they have a parade for the parents then they go back to class have a small party and then they have to take off the masks and any other part of the costume that isn't needed or will get in the way. But at least they get the fun of dressing up.

DivineMsDi I totally agree with you on the Cowboy and Indians thing. My best friend is Indian and I don't like how they make Indians look to kids now a days.

My younger 2 childrens school said the same thing this year. I have been a parent of this school for 11 years and this is the first year my kids will not be allowed to wear their costume's. But our school reasons are different, they/school feels that because of some parents beliefs, it is not fair to their children since they have to be left out (I say maybe a small handfull), and it also takes away from all the kids learning time. This use to be such a great activity and the parents were involved in it. Infact this is probably the one activity that the school could get so many parents to attend and be involved. The parade was some much fun every year and the students really looked forward to it. What a shame.

We never got to wear costumes to school... and Cabann says it's just a handful, but most of the ppl I know don't let their kids trick or treat or dress up... and my husband feels that way too. I personally like Halloween and seeing the kids all dressed up... but I can understand how the schools wouldn't want it, too.

I think the school should allow it and it should be up to the parents to decided if their child participates. I see nothing wrong with letting the kids dress up and have fun.

Our kids weren't allowed to wear them as well (at their old school). The rule was because some kids dress in scary costumes and they didn't want the lil ones to be scared. Instead, the principal had the kids dress in OU or OSU (rival college teams here) gear. The kids loved it! They were allowed to paint their hair and face in team colors. I think my kids loved it becaue it was like getting to wear two different halloween costumes LOL I don't mind it at all because my disabled DD get very frightened by scary masks n such and she wouldn't last a day in school if she had to deal w/ that.

At our kids school they are only allowed to dress up if they are in kindergarten. And its only for like a half hour or so while they parade up and down the halls and into the classrooms for the other grades to see ; which I think is unfair. If they want to let them dress up fine but I dont think they should parade thru the first graders' rooms because they surely wont understand why some can and some cant. Also in my childrens' school they are not allowed to call it a Halloween Party. They have to all it a "fall celebration"

I remember when I was in elementary school.... everyone dressed up for their HALLOWEEN PARTY and the entire school paraded down the halls in their costumes to share with everyone else. I can remember clearly doing that in kindergarten and first grade

Another thing.... our elementary school is kindergarten thru 4th grade. Everyone gets to have the "fall celebration" except the 4th grade They say they are too old. BULL, now that is unfair! Just cuz a kid is 10 or so doesnt mean they dont like to enjoy a little snack and break every now and then.

My 9 yr old's teacher already has it planned out and asked me to come in. They are going to do a couple lesson plans, then play a math related bingo game, have snacks and juice , pass out treats and then it will be time to go home because they only have a half day for conferences that day.

Kids deserve a break. They work so hard and have so many pressures during a school day I think they are entitled to their little parties, etc.

    ok, done rambling, lol

My school was the "Indians" and they were saying for a while that they might change it because Native Americans found it offensive.

Re: WHAT NO Halloween Costumes @ son's school!

I'm probley gonna sound racist when I say this but I am soooo sick of other people coming into the US from other countries and then taking away our fun and things we grew up with. I think it is stupid that we don't say the Pledge of allegiance anymore cuz it might offend someone or that we don't celebrate Christmas, Halloween or Easter in some schools or the same way we did when were small. It is BS! I'm sorry that is part of a lot of American traditions and if people from other countries don't like it they go home....point blank. I wouldn't go to France and put my son in school and tell them they have to say the pledge of allegiance just because my son is American!
It’s just like atheist saying I don’t believe in God and neither should anyone else. Okay well our country was founded with the belief in God and well I’m sure they use good ol’ American cash and it clearly say’s “In God we trust” on the back…..
I like the fact that America is a bunch of blended traditions but why should we always be the ones to change ours because of people from other places coming here. They knew what America was about before they got on the plane and what they should expect so I don't see why they complain.

It just makes me mad that my son can’t grow up having a fun filled Childhood in school the way I did before everyone sued everyone over the stuff that is said and done in school…
