Do you have some epsom salt? Try soaking it in that in very warm water. They sell special files for filing the edge of ingrown toenails so they don't grow into the skin, if you can get out to get one. That must be very painful. I hope it feels better for you soon!

If the soaking doesn't make it better soon see a doctor. I didn't and the infection turned into staph. It got into my bone and Wed. I have to have surgery to remove my little toe and that bone in my foot. I've had quite a few ingrown toe nails before, but this was the worst. The doctor told me to soak it in soapy warm water and gave me antibiotics (sp), but it just didn't help.

OH I so feel your pain. I have cronically ingrown toenails(4). About every2-3 weeks I have to take a pair of clippers and cut the toenail down the sides vertically, then take the hemo's and rip it out outerwise they get so bad I can hardly walk. I also haven't been able to wear closed toe shoesin years. In the summer it is flip flops only and in the winter it is houseshoes. I checked into the surgery and it's like 350.00 a toe here. I don't soak them or anythng, just operate on them every once in a while.
