    toll calls

Hubby called me last month collect. I got the phone bill today & it is a whopping $23.03 for a 2 minute phone call!
WTF!!! Isn't that a bit excessive? It works out to over $11.00 a minute!
I called my phone company & they told me they are going to double check it & they even thought it was way too high.
    Any opinions?

    Smacks Tech with a carrot!!!
He seldom calls home while he is at work & when he does call he always uses his cell phone. When he called collect I thought something bad had happened. He was just calling to tell me his cell phone wasn't working!!

Where did he call you from? lol That does seem like an awful lot for a two minute phone call but if it was operator assisted instead of directly dialed it will cost more.

You could always buy him a 20 minute phone card, for just those kind of emergencies....

That's what I did for my wife!

Sounds like he was a bit overcharged unless his call was routed through some third world nation. This needs to be investigated.

    LOL

A simular thing happened to me once, I had an emergency with my son and couldn't find his Drs # so I called the 1-???-555-1212 for information which is usually just 1.00 to use and got the number, so after that she ask me if I wanted her to connect go ahead and connect me, and being in a hurry I said yes... she said its only 1.00 to do so...

well... that dollar, and the 10 minutes conversation costed over $50.... I couldn't get the charges reversed and had to pay it. I still don't quite understand why it was that high... but I do know I'll never let them do any connecting for me again

I hope you have better luck...

Wow! That's nuts. I have digital phone service through Comast and I'm allowed to call information seven times before being charged. After that it's 40 cents per call. You're allowed to ask for two numbers per each call to information but I have never done that. If we want to be directly connected to the number it's an additional charge of 35 cents. I have only done that a couple of times when I was either in a hurry or I didn't have a pen and paper ready to write the number down.

I know that if you call collect from a hotel/motel phone the rates are really high, for some reason. I figured this out after using motel room last summer to call home. It ended up like being $9-$11 a minute.

I saw a story on one of the news magazines like dateline that there is a phone compnay that charges outrageous fees and most users don't know their going to be paying those charges unless they pay attention to who owns the telephone booth and knows the name as being the one who charges such high rates.
Ignorance is bliss but the question is can we afford it?
