Thread: Almost quit my job today

I knew I was in for it when the boss came in this morning and said he wanted to talk to me. He started complaining that we are supposed to do a temperature check on the coolers and I don't do it. I told him no one ever told me I was supposed to do it. He said the guy that worked the nights I don't work had the same " excuse". That's why he got fired and did I want to be like him. Hello!! 2 people tell you they were never told to do this. Don't you think maybe they are both telling the truth? Then he says the bathrooms weren't cleaned when I know I cleaned them . So he decides to go in and check. He finds one speck of dirt on the sink. Obviously I didn't clean them because right there is a spot of dirt. People used the bathrooms after I cleaned them. I can't always run in after every person to check for a spot of dirt. I'm not even going to go into the garbage being taken out at night again. It is corporate policy not to go outside at night. He doesn't seem to understand this. I was about to quit. If we didn't need two incomes to pay the bills, I would have quit. Sorry this is so long. I am just so mad.

I told him it was corporate policy. He said I should be listening to him not corporarte. It's not that I don't want to take out the garbage. I usually wait until someone else comes in in the morning and then take it out. That way someone knows I'm out there. I am just not looking forward to going to work tonight.

mimi ... that's just horrible! I would report him to corporate ... he obviously has no concern for his employees, and he is asking you to go against their policy. Taking the garbage out at night could be dangerous ... and with nobody else being there, it's a ridiculous thing to expect you to do.

A female working alone at night is also dangerous. Is there any way you could get a day shift???

I agree with filing a grievance with corporate.....

Raven: Yes. We finally got paid July 3rd.

Marci: My husband works during the day. Our youngest is only 5 so I need to be home during the day with him. There are not many options around here for working at night. There's Walmart but I heard they start at $6 an hour and I'm getting more than that now.

Is there any type of work you are interested in? Most of our local hospitals are always looking for patient care techs and they pay pretty well plus good benefits. Some will even offer a training program.

Mimi ... I understand now why you are working nights, but you should still be able to feel safe at your job. I think I would report what is going on ... he is placing you in jeopardy by asking you to take the garbage out at night.
