FYI- have you ever thought about getting an engagement ring at a pawn shop. I friend of mine got 1/2 ct. great quality there for 500.00 it apprasied right at 3500. She told her bf she didn't really care where it came from. They just happened to go in a pawn shop and get it. There is one in macon,ga that a friend of mine's friend owns and he sells both pawned and not pawned jewelry. To be honest no one would know the difference. When I one day get a ct instead of the 1/2 (for what we pd for it I could have gotten a ct but, I wanted the quality and clarity) I will probably either use ebay or the pawn shop in macon.

Be careful when buying a diamond from WMart they are a good deal for their price but, a lot of them are I clarity. I hope that doesn't come across as rude but, remember I clarity you can see the flaw with a naked eye. I just don't want you to get ripped off.

My sister is a District Manager for the Walmart jewelry departments. They buy their jewelry from the same dealers as Zales and other major chains. I got my wedding set from Walmart. My sister told me about it. I got it for $800. I've seen the EXACT same ring at Zales for over $2500. I think it's a beautiful ring and have had alot of compliments on it. It's got 23 diamonds, 11 on each side and a big marquis raised up in the middle. And when I clean it, it sparkles like they do in the stores. Don't be afraid to look at Walmart for fine jewelry. You might be surprised what you find there.

MrsSpeed- thanks for sharing this with us. I also want to clarify something I said. Just about any jewelry store carries I clarity not just walmart. Sorry I made it sound like walmart. Just be careful not to get ripped off by any jeweler. Before we purchased mine we gained a knowledge base about diamonds. Its said to say but, sometimes when we went into a jewelry store I knew more about the diamonds than the person who was trying to sell it to us. In the end we went with a local jewelry store in Atlanta and got a excellent deal on mine. It appraised for 3900 and we paid 1500.

Oh that's ok. It's true you can get a bad diamond anywhere. It's smart to shop around. There's no reason to pay the 300% mark up that the major chains tag on to their jewelry. When you can find something just as nice or better elsewhere for less.

I could not agree more... We were wanting to buy a new wedding set and we bought one last Christmas from someone, but due to circumstances (that I won't explain), I refused to wear it and we resold it. We're trying to buy another one now. There's a pawn shop close by our house and I just love looking at the new rings he gets in each week... I know exactly which day he puts his new stuff out and because he's had so much 'face time' w/ us coming in and looking for just the right one, I have auto first pick AND a 30% discount... he (the owner) is awesome and he's not unreasonably priced either, he also has an 'appraisal guarantee' (if it appraises for LESS than the amount you payed, he'll refund your money). He's had some nice ones come and go, but not one has 'spoke' to me yet... Anyways, the point was, I agree that a pawn shop is a good place to go, and unless they're just con artists trying to rip everybody, it's good diamonds too (I've tried to sell rings, they don't buy cz most times and they also have a machine that will beep if it's a real diamond and not if it's not... same machine jewelers use). Sorry that got long winded...
