Student Loans.....
I am so mad, and so upset, that I could just scream!!!!
I wish that someone could explain to me why those who want to attend college, need to fill out Financial aid papers 6 months before the sememster starts, if they DO NOT receive the aid before it is time to pay for the classes? This is what I am being told about my loan. My classes have to be paid for by August 15th, plus the cost of the books. I'm being told that I will not get the loan money for 30 days after the sememster has started!!!!! WTF???? I mean really, If I could crap the money to go to school, then I wouldn't need financial aid!!!!! So, what do you do? I have been wanting to do this for a long time....I can't afford to drop all of that money at one time! If I don't go back now, I will never go!!!!

Go to the financial aid office and get financially cleared and you will be able to get your books and attend classes. This stuff happens all the time.
good luck!

What you are saying doesnt make sense. Normally you fill out your financial aid papers in jan - mar for the next fall semester. you will know whether or not you qualify for any kind of grants by may. Any loans you get depends on who you go through to get them and i have never heard of them being held up for a month. You really need to contact the financial aid off and get clarification.

My hubby gets student loans, and this fall so will I. The money is supposed to come in just before classes start, but occasionally it doesn't, like his summer loans, they just came in last week and he's been in classes since the beginning of the month. As long as the loans will cover your fees, not including books, I would assume they'll allow you to start, they do here, and any money left over, we get a week after the school gets theirs. Call the financial aid dept. they should be able to help you.

When I started, I didn't fill out papers until May for Fall semester and I was covered. My grant didn't pay until 3 weeks into the semester b/c they do attendance checks before they pay out. I just call the financial aid office when I get a bill and clear things with them. They should know that you have money coming.

I know. I wanted to go this fall, but you had to have the papers filled out by April 1st.

Well, I have called and talked to 3 people this morning, and all are telling me the same thing. I gues the next step is going to be to go up there. To be honest, I 'm so upset about all of this, I don't think that I it would be a good idea for me to go up to the college anytime soon!!!

machande,
If I were you, I would ask the financial aid office about the deadline. I know some people who are just now deciding to go to school this fall and they were told to go ahead and fill out the financial aid paper work. You might not get as much as you would have if you had filled it out earlier but usually that has to do with monies available from the school not from federal grant and loan programs.

I did ask the school and that's what I was told. So I guess I'll have to put it off for ANOTHER year.

Was this for getting the pell grant or scholarships? Wouldnt think it would make a difference as far as getting a loan.
