Grey's' creator squashes rumors of T.R. Knight's departure

Will Dr. George O'Malley survive a sixth season on "Grey's Anatomy"?

No way, says show creator Shonda Rhimes, who calls the latest rumors of T.R. Knight planning to leave the show before his contract is up, "hilarious," "ridiculous," and false," in a recent Twitter post.



Since he asked to be let out of his contract in December, rumors have swirled that Knight's disinterest in the show, lack of airtime for his character and growing tension in relations with Rhimes would result in the imminent death of Dr. O'Malley.

Earlier this month, Rhimes told Entertainment Weekly, "There have been lots of rumors about TR, but TR's never said anything. Take from it what you will."

But in a blog on E! Online this week, Mark Malkin claims that mutiple sources have confirmed Knight won't return next season.

The back and forth continued Thursday when TV Guide sussed out a "well-placed source" at ABC that claimed, "That story is utterly false. Nothing at all has changed in T.R.'s status."

Meanwhile, Knight's co-star Katherine Heigl, who was also rumored to want an early out of the show, has decided to stay on as the cancer-afflicted Izzie.



New episodes of "Grey's" return this fall, on Thursdays at 9/8c on ABC

Report: T.R. Knight officially leaving 'Grey's Anatomy'

In the season finale of "Grey's Anatomy," T.R. Knight's character George was left seriously injured after being hit by a bus, leaving many fans wondering if he would still bealive come fall. Well, it looks like his chance of survival has just gone way down.

EW.com is now reporting that T.R. Knight is officially leaving the weekly drama, stating, "T.R. Knight's wish to be released from his contract has been granted."

Last month, after rumors that Knight was trying to negotiate out of his "Grey's" contract three years early, creator and head writer Shonda Rimes said that he was not leaving the show. "I think that there have been lots of rumors about T.R.," stated Rimes. "But T.R.'s never said anything. Take from it what you will."

This time, however, it looks like the rumor -- and the character of George -- may finally have been put to rest.

I read this this morning. I hope that they let the character stay on with plastic surgery. The way he looked after the accident it is possible. Don't get me wrong I love T R Knight and it breaks my heart he is leaving but I still love the character of George too. I just hate that they keep losing characters. I also want Addison back because I miss her on there. I thought I read that her show was canceled. Did anyone else hear that. If she came back it would be thorn in Lexie's side with Sloan. I just hope that Izzie stays. I thought that it was going to be like that Izzie lived George dies. If you look at the last scene where they are looking at each other and smiling then Izzie stops and looks down or away as if she is looking at them working on her and she gets this look on her face as if saying I am sorry. Then George stops smiling. This all was probably me just seeing things. Anyway I can't wait until this comes back on

What a great idea! I hope they thought of it too. That way we could still have George.

I actually saw a story on yahoo awhile back right after Shronda Rhinnes had said TR Knight wasn't leaving, It had this picture of another actor that was on a show and they were talking about him being in a picture somewhere with Patrick Dempsey. It was being questioned as to whether he was being recast as George but of Shronda R said that was not happening but this guy is going to be on a show this fall as a recast. He also looked like it could be George with plastic surgery because same build and coloring. Of course someone said they saw an article that George will not be recast so I guess we will have to see.

The person that I read about in the article was an actor that use to be on Lost and he is going to be on another show on ABC not Grey's so there goes my hope that they are recasting George. What a shame.
