Yes, you do have to give your SSN to get paid, but this is Harvard Business School. The Cler stands for: Computer Lab for Experimental Research. I do not give my ssn out to anyone but I felt confident enough to give it to them. The following is from their website regarding ssn and payments.

If you choose not to provide your SSN at the time of registration, you must provide it for the researcher at the first study you participate in. If you are participating in on-line studies only, you can send an email to cler@hbs.edu with this information or go to "Update Profile" to enter it on our secure serve. You cannot be paid unless your SSN is on file. Please see our privacy statement for more information.

How is everyone finding out about these? Do they email you or are you just lucky enough to login (and check) right when they have a survey up?

I just log in everyday and every once in awhile they are there. I have never gotten an email from them.
