N.C. church plans to burn Bibles on Halloween

CANTON, North Carolina (AP) —
A North Carolina pastor says his church plans to burn Bibles and books by Christian authors on Halloween to light a fire under true believers.

Pastor Marc Grizzard told Asheville TV station WLOS that the King James version of the Bible is the only one his small western North Carolina church follows. He says all other versions, such as the Living Bible, are "satanic" and "perversions" of God's word.

On Halloween night, Grizzard and the 14 members of the Amazing Grace Baptist Church also will burn music and books by Christian authors, such as Billy Graham and Rick Warren.

Telephone calls to the Amazing Grace Baptist Church and Grizzard's home were not immediately returned Wednesday.

Aren't people supposed to worship God and not a book. What makes his favorite version the right one? Friggin moron.
That's the kind of thinking that pushes me further away.

He claims that the King James version is the only non-perverted version of the bible? I find that quite amusing. Does the man believe that the bible was written in the King James format and has come down through the years untouched and unedited? The bible has been changed and reworded and things have been omitted so many times over the course of history that it too is a perversion of the original text. It strikes me as hilarious how often people consider the KJV the only "true" bible simply because it's written in old English. It is called the King James version for a reason - because it was written (and edited) under the instruction of King James of England to read the way he wanted it. When will people realize this??

Well, I am not going to let a wacko pastor turn me off of religion no more than the Westboro nuts do.

Also, that is his opinion only. Plus I don't believe God would reveal his word to us just to let it be mucked up so much no bible is true. The guy can believe "his" bible is the right one and I can believe mine is true. Most bibles have the same words in them anyway.

I am sure God is not worried over who is fighting over bibles. He will judge us on our metits only.

It's a lot more then the wacko pastors that have turned me away. That's only a tiny piece of the puzzle.
If most bibles have the same words in them I'd think that "God" would be a tad pissed that his word was being destroyed.
It's not the fighting over the bibles that's the problem, it's the intent of one mortal man to make that decision.

not understanding that last line there, what intent? To burn bibles, or to believe there is only one true version of the bible?....

It means that no one mortal person can make the decision as to which is the "right version" In other words, who the hell is he to say that the KJV is the only right version and what gives him the right to make that choice. By burning the bibles it is his intent to destroy other written words that he, personally doesn't agree with.

First, I want to know who is the publisher of the books he's burning.

Second, I want to buy some stock.

Third, knock yourself out.

Idiot.
